So, I've been using a built ka-t for sometime now, but i have in front of me a vg30dett, full swap. now i'm second guessing selling my ka-t setup and going with a built vg30dett setup, It's not a lot of work (for me) and I think it would be very different. I'm thinking:

vg30dett

forged pistons/eagle rods
gt28 twin turbo
custom sheet metal intake manifold
550cc injectors
mls head gaskets
arp head studs

I think it'll be awesome, and produce good horse power.

I'm running an s14, stance coils, pbm arms

What do you guys think? I know it'll be a little heaver but I think i can over come that easily.

My friend is really trying to get me to do this to my car. I am still undecided. I am afraid of what kind of headaches are going to come up from trying to clear manifold on the steering rack. If it works out well and you decided to tackle it I would be interested in lots of pics. If it fits and everything clears I would like to know what you did as far as mounts so I can copy it lol. I think the swap would be bad a** though.

^^^ :werd: You already know how I feel about it, man... Motor is heavy but damn it makes power easy! Make the Z32 guys even MORE jealous by showing them that the VG fits better in an S-Chassis! :chuckle:

It would be easier with a single turbo, single throttle body running stand alone.

Very true, but I love the twin turbo, so if i did do this(which i most likely will), I'll be doing twin turbo, with custom plenums for the intake, and a 2.5in exhaust into a 3in exhaust. Front mount intercooler etc

I mean, i already have the motor. xD

HAHA. I mean i really want too, it seems like it would be a half decent swap, but I'm not 100% on it. I have the motor but its not offical yet.

Here's the thing: I don't see any reason why not to do it. You got the motor. You got a car waiting for a motor. You got the skills and resources to do it. Wutcha waiting on?

BUUUUUUT... You did just finish your Z32 KA-T swap... I can totally understand if you wanna take a little break and just enjoy the cars you have right now before pulling the trigger and jumping into another project. I know I would need a break after all that work!

As an update i guess, the z32 is running great, really is. But it leaks from the rear main seal, i had to just replace the front main seal, i should have done it before i installed the motor but I guess i'm going to pull it out during the winter and do a fresh gasket set on it, not very expensive and will deff fix my leaking problem everywhere. lol

Onto what this thread is about, I sold my built ka-t, and I'm now starting the build on my vg30dett, i'm currently tearing the motor apart to send to the machine shop, and I ordered a bunch of rebuild parts for it, so i can get this thing crazy, i'm expecting low 400whp range for now, which should be reliable enough for what i need it to do.

vg30de The heads are almost off, then going to the machine shop for some minor stuff, just to make sure the motor is in good shape when i tear it a new a**. I'm ordering my head studs, head gaskets, and motor mounts this week(i'm just going to use xcessives kit so i don't have to waste the time on my own personal car.)

Once the motor is back it'll be a quick build from there, I just need a clutch.

Alright, motor is at the machine shop, i just ordered my motor mounts, transmission mount, head gaskets, studs, and the shifter relocation bracket. Now just waiting on funds to order a nice clutch and soon enough the motor will be in the caw!

So today was pretty productive for the little amount i worked. haha

I started to work on the vg30dett, getting the intake polished and mildly ported. I also worked on painting and polishing the valve covers. The inner valve covers will be black were as the outer valve covers will be polished aluminum. :))

ANND i worked on the wiring, getting my wiring all situated for the body harness and the motor harness, so i started by tearing most of the engine harness apart and taking out everything i don't need, and putting everything I do need in one simple plug so the motor will just come out of the car with one plug, unless normal vg's which need 6 plugs to come out.

I'm also gutting everything off the intake manifold, and putting ka throttle bodys on it(larger in diameter). So this thing should be a beast!

Did you buy the entire vg kit with the crossmember or just the mounts and relocation kit? I have been reading up everything I can find on this swap and there just isn't any info out there. I don't have a VG30DETT laying around to check diminsions and and clearances. I do have a s14 parts car i can mock everything up in but I really dont' want to drop the cash on the motor to find it is going to be a complete nightmare. I really want to do something other than the standard SR or kAT. I was also planning on runnning the KA throttle bodies on mine if/when the swap happens. I am highly interested in yout thread! KUDOS for having the nuts to do a crazy swap just jumping into it.

The thing is that 400hp will be reliable. These things make great stock/mild built power. :naughty:

This isn't the first car i've built I run shop doing this everyday. The vg30de non turbo fits in there with no problems, i'm probably going to have to modify the turbo elbows and such to work properly, but none the less should fit just fine.

I could have made the mounts but as i said i run a business so i don't have time to do all the custom fab work i'd like to to my own car, but I purchased my entire kit from xcessive, i'll be making my own driveshaft, doing my wiring and modifying my oil pan just like xcessives(and will be using a j30 front sump oil pan).

If you were to do the na(220whp), it bolts up perfectly fine no problems asked in a s chassis, the turbo model is the one that's a little trickier. If you do go threw with it, find one from a j30 not a 300zx.

My reason for choosing the motor, 400hp is easily attainable stock, and doesn't ruin its reliability with a tune. the motor should be more than able to handle the boost needed for it.

I am most likely going to do it. If i do I will be going with the turbo. I am not opposed to converting over to a single turbo but would prefer to keep the twins. It seems as if everyone has trouble clearing the brake booster and the turbo stuff on the steering shaft. I am confident I can build my own mounts and what nots but if the shifter location is going to be a PITA I might be better off to buy the adapter and the mounts from the same place for ease and to be sure on fitment. xcessive didn't seem to be priced to high at all.

Sick. I thought several people would have done SC frontier swaps by now but so many people avoid VGs. This is gonna be neat.

Yeah, I don't know how the turbos will fit with the xcessive mounts, but I'm sure i'll figure it out when i get too it. That's why i wish my motor would get back so i can install it and see how it fits with the twin turbo, I've seen the TT done, so i know it has to fit somehow, but the ones i seen didn't use xcessive's kit.

It does clean the bmc but I deleted everything off the intake manifold and I'm rerouting the brake lines under the dash, to be cool, and make room for other stuff. So well see how it goes! I think it'll fit but who knows
