Uh oh, am I playing with fire?

Uh oh, am I playing with fire?

Postby Rodeo » Sun Aug 02, 2009 4:43 pm

After having my Versa about a week, I bought some Kyowa rims and tires, 18x8 (40 offset), 225/40-18

Now, for suspension. I WANT to go with the Megan springs because 1) Those wheel gaps look goofy, and 2) The Versa, while a great car so far NEEDS to go down so the back view of it doesnt look so darn tall and skinny.

So, with a 225/40-18 and a 2 inch drop, am I looking for trouble?

I also chose Megan Racing Lowering Springs because of the drop and because they were Orange and I have Orange Underglow and all that nifty stuff on mine.

But with that being said I do have the stock alloys still. Working on getting some 17's. I don't think anyone has had any troubles with 215/45/17R or 225/45/17R I can't remember which. It might even be both. With the 18" tires you might rub up on the fender piece.

Might have to go with the Tanabes.

ive got some 20's that are 225/30 and i lowered on tanabe... i never had issues, but are you seriously running 18x8? the only rubbing you would encounter would be when making u turns, you will rub the inner fender lining, but other than that you should be ok.... oh yeah and you should come out to a meet sometime.... http://socalversaclub.com

Yes they are seriously 18x8. You can see how deep the rims are in the 2nd pic. Even those 225's have to stretch a little to fit em...245's would be perfect on that wheel, but thats a lot of tire!

I have ordered the Megan springs...worst case scenario, I either have to go with Tanabes (which means I would have some new megan springs for sale), or go with a lower profile 30 or 35 tire (which would mean I'd have some new tires for sale). I think I'm good though...those wheel wells are deceptively big, and the back one is flat, where on a lot of other cars it would have a flanged inner feder. Its almost as if Nissan knew we were going to drop em!...lol

I'll check out the link, and look forward to a meet.

So, through a flaw of logistics I ended up going with the Tanabe springs instead of the Megans, and I'm glad I did! WIth those 225/18's the Megans might have been looking for trouble. Here's how it turned out with the Tanabe.

Can't go wrong with Tanabe's! I love my Versa so much more with lowered suspension.

Youre right, it is a bit out of my way, but it would also be nice to get a chance to meet some other enthusiasts and not just 14yo girls at the gas station who think its "cute"...aahhhgh. If they end up introducing me to their 20 something year old sister though...

Hey, at least that aspect isnt as bad as when I had my Z. I had a bunch of work into it too, and guys would often say "I bet you can pick up a lot of chicks in this thing"...well, no, I'll tell ya what though, it attracted DUDES at gas stations like flies on stink!....again I say aaagh!

Anyhow, yes, I might come out.
