I wanna know what the maximum towing capacity of the 720 is with an unmodded Z24 motor.

We all have towed and hauled things beyond the average towing capacity of a truck within short distances. What have you gotten away with on this truck for hauling or towing?

1000 pound trailer with no brakes.2000 pound trailer with brakes.

This is for all 720s with all motors and gearboxes, from the manual.

So it can't tow a car? What does that mean? 1000 in total?

I've never towed anything behind the 720. However I have pushed alot of stuff with it.

We do it regularly, no sweat. Once the car has brakes and the driver accustomed to towing no problem if the insurance covers it.

I didn't say you CAN'T, I said the manual says you SHOULDN'T

Personally I wouldn't tow much of anything with my 720 just cause of that fact, I'm afraid it'd shorten my transmission's lifespan. Here is a more full excerpt:

From the '81 manual:Never exceed value for trailer with brakes is 2000lbs, 1000lbs for trailers without brakes. Maximum gross combined weight shouldn't exceed 5000lbs (5400lbs for 4wd models).

Max tongue load is 10% of trailer weight, and should be considered part of cargo load and gross axle weight rating.

Max cargo payload (not trailer) is 1100 pounds for all models, and rear max gross axle weight is 2400 pounds.

I take it you got an automatic? The manual provides guidelines for users to follow. They never state the true load capacity but what the manufacturer tested as safe in case of any claims.

I actually do, but I'm just quoting the '81 owners manual, which lists the data as for manual and automatic, 2wd and 4wd, gasoline and diesel. Page 9 for any curious parties.
