Remote Exhaust Cutout - Y34

Just got mine in. Going to have it put in soon. Noticed that the OEM exhaust is not exactly 3 inches in dia. but the cutout device is.

I see that jegs has an adaptor that appears to fit. http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/30733/10002/-1

It drops the size to 2 7/8". Is that the actrual size of our exhaust or is it even smaller?

I thought there was one other person that had this done and wanted to know if this was the adapter used. (I could not find your post...it must be buried in another topic?)

Also, I plan to not weld this in so I can remove it if I want ...or the actuator fails.

I'm installing it after the cat. Were there any serious mods required to get the device in there or was there enough room for it?

What size connectors do I need for the "replacement" pipe if I remove the device? Got a catalong number for it?

OK, I'm thinking about having it welded in instead of using clamps. They want $60, they'll add a turndown to it but I assume I'm responsible for the wiring after it's on.

I figure on removing the resonator and putting the cutout assembly there. It will be just after the cats and before the pipes split off to the 2 mufflers.

Strangely, the pipe coming into and out of the resonator is only 2 1/2" and I can't find a reducer for cheap. No clamp-on solutions either that take 3" down to 2 1/2".

If it leaks like a mother after a year or 6 months, I'll either return the cutout assembly (have it cut out & put back in) or scrap the idea & put the resonator back in. It just sucks having to pay to get it done each time...

It sounds like I might make some new friends in the exhaust biz if ...no one here knows about adding one of these things in.

I can tell you this, it is going to be obnoxiously loud. I had my exhaust cut off after the cats before i had a custom one built and it was retarded. everything in the car was shaking lol

Yep...I'm ok with that. I have something called "captians call" on a boat. It opens up the exhaust of a 454 to the transom with the flick of a switch. It's slick and the sound is awesome.

I think I'm going to check some local parts stores for a reducer and if they don't have it, I'll let the exhaust shop figure it out.

I just need to figure out how to get 12 volts to it next.

Thanks for that note. Actually, I'm thinking about tapping into a power lead from the cig lighter in the center console to the remote module which then connects to the cutout system.
So far, I'm thinking I'll just drill a hole under the passenger seat near the power cable from the unit and then use a grommet to seal it from underneath.

I have a remote for it too, so no manual switch wiring is needed. I'll just put the remote module under the seat as well.

That Varex system seems way too big for what I'm looking for. I did conside rit previously though. With a 4.5 inch outlet tip, it's too boy-racer Civic looking and at $500 +shipping & tax for it, I could have purchased 3 of what I went with. Also, in "quiet mode" the restricted path looks well...too restrictive.

I did it!!! Holy Shiznit is it loud when open.
I can feel better acceleration at highway speeds, no question. Off the line, I don't notice any degredation or improvement.

The wiring for power to the actuator was a piece of cake. I had a spare grommet to seal off the hole I drilled and put the receiver under the driver's seat. The kit comes with a cig lighter power connector with loads of wire length and while I'm still getting used to it, I'm just using the power access in the center console. I'll probably tap into a 12v power supply after I knock out a few things that have priority.

Having a remote control for it is cool as hell.

It's loud as NASCAR! The down side is that when closed, the butterfly is thin enough that you still hear some exhaust note and though it's not unplesant, I'd rather have it dead stock sounding when the actuator is closed. I may see if I can build up the area around the butterfly to thicken it a little against the leaking exhaust noise. Did I mention it's LOUD when open?

At highway speeds when closed, It's quiet as stock inside, but when cranked, idling or driving around town, you can tell there's something unusual about this M.

Theres also no ability to use a half open setting or adjust for sound. It's all or nothing. For around $100 plus shipping, I'm OK with that.

I had the shop take out the resonator after the cats and they had to adjust the collection point a little to get the cutout assembly to fit correctly. Pretty simple really. I kept the resonator to add back in case the unit fails or I get sick of it....but not anytime soon!

The wife hates it and refuses to drive it anymore, so there's another win.

it's a nice mod but as time goes by they will close even less giving you more noise. they need to be cleaned all the time.

had to take them off because of noise when closed. I was also running without cats.

it was just to loud.

even with headers to pipe to muffler I still had 8"-10" flame come out the muffler when down shifting hard.

they are great for a car that goes to the track a lot and then have to drive home. but not for a DD.

Just finished a 300 mile round trip with the port set to open the whole time. It's staying installed, no question. I frickin love opening it up whenever... I'm getting a tick better mileage too. So far just 1.5mpg on my daily commute, but we'll see if it gets any better in the next few weeks.

It's the perfect car for it as a "sleeper" sport sedan.

Been 9 months or so and I give it near daily use. I LOVE it!!! Sounds mean as hell, tuns heads, quiet when I want.

I just want to get some clarification on this, the switch/button to open the cutout is remote giving you basically a wireless button you can install anywhere, correct?
