Got mine up to 110 on some open road today - smooth as silk.

Any other stories about visits to triple digits?

I have done an indicated 140mph in my 2003 M45 ... for a very short distance. Not like my old days of high-speed driving. I am married with a young son, and need not to kill myself ... for his future.

How was it at those speeds? 125 and 140?

Here's a pic of my speedo at the max I've pushed it so far. Sorry it's a little blury - hard driving with one hand and trying to take a steady pic with the other!

Absolutely smooth! When you slow back down to a 100, it feels like you are dawdling!

One point I want to emphasize folks!

Please note that you should only consider doing extended high-speeds with tires and rims that are in excellent condition and properly inflated and balanced, your car must be in perfect running condition, etc., etc., etc.

For example, remember that fixing a flat tire with an interior patch derates the speed rating of the tire! Patched V and Z rated tires can drop to the point where extended high-speed driving over even 100mph could be extremely dangerous.

Yes, the tire is repaired, but the heating and flexing at high-speeds may cause the patch to fail. The consequences of a tire failure at high-speed had better be obvious to us all!

FWIW, I only take my cars over 120mph when my tires are brand-new to about half tread-depth only, and with no flat repair patches.

Ha!

If you look at my pic closely....youll notice the big "P" I took that pic on startup, when the needles fly over to the right. hahaha.

For the record, I did hit 140mph...but I sure as hell wasnt about to take a pic of my speedo. I got there quickly, and she felt like she had more to go....but I didnt.

This was with NEW tires, and an early morning completely empty toll road.

Ah! I missed that! I have the 2003 M45 and the needles don't do that!

100 mph while trying to get next to a Lotus Elise. He moved over 3 lanes to exit . When I looked down, I noticed I was at 100 mph. Very smooth. And yes, the Elise looked sweet. That thing has some get-up-and-go.

Hit 135 yesterday on a trip down to southern illinois. my good friend was sleeping in pass seat and didnt even feel anything different, i had to tell her what had just happened, lol. I plan on going with 20" rims/wheels and dont plan on doing that again with that big a wheel. Good luck all and be safe driving!!!

125 the other day with some Chevrolet trying to keep up with me in the fast lane. Felt real smooth. Getting back down below 100 felt like I was inching along. Ahhhh, to dream about the Autobahn.

Give or take a few mph the orginal Q45 sold in 1989 could achieve 140 mph in 3rd gear and 150-155 mph in 4th depending on ambient temperature and altitude..........a modified ecu and exhaust old Q with a decent engine [mileage] can attain 152-157 mph some might hit a real 160mph eventually. The speedometer is optimistic therefore you must use GPS to account for tire slip at these speeds above 140 mph.

I would expect no less from the same displacement M45......30 HP amounts to only 2 mph variance in top speed assuming equal aerodynamics.

The Govenered 147 MPH [from ecu not speedometer] is there due to tires.

http://www.popularmechanics.co...3&c=y

Since power drops 3.3% per 1,000 feet AMSL and 1% per 11F [normalize to 60F] adjust top speed using cube root of the ratio of power drop.

So who won? What the race like-did he pull on you, neck and neck, or did you pull on him?

About a week and a half ago I got my 03 M45 w/ K&N Filtercharger up to about 130 before braking down to about 10. I stopped w/ a little bit of force and when my buddy in his S4 caught up to me we came to a stop and all you could see was plumes of smoke coming off the rotors. I was pretty worried. Took her in for tire rotation and oil change today and they said there is some mild heat warping on the fronts...

Have any of you guys experienced this type of effect after braking from those speeds? I know this isn't an F1 car but I would expect brakes of that caliber to hold up a little better under spirited conditions.

Hit around 142MPH with my G35c. So smooth.... after changing to 6th gear, i can feel it takes more time to accelerate. i took a picture with my cell phone at 135MPH (5th gear). Sorry about the blurry. Only have one hand left to drive.

I don't disrespect the 45 but I have gotten my 35 sport to 146 with 3 people in the car and I am more than happy with that!!!!

I get a thrill driving my M45 at high speeds but I do so responsibly with awareness of time, space and road circumstances. Whenever I see speeders within the midst of heavy traffic, I see red.

Last night, a report on the KTVK 6PM news related a story about an idiot clocked during the day at 147mph on the Loop 101 between Phoenix and Scottsdale. Besides being outraged that this thoughtless SOB was endangering every one on that freeway, I was blown away to learn that he was driving a rented Hyundai Sonata.

If speed is your thing, this kind of makes one question one’s buying habits. On second thought, I’ll stick with my M45.

I agree entirely with you! Driving fast in heavy traffic is downright dangerous and irresponsible. I am always careful to be on way open roads before I do anything like that!

I'm just going through reading some of these posts and I know this is old but, my wife has an I35 '04 and I have an M45 '03. We both have heat spots on our front rotors. She doesn't drive as bad as I do and her car only has 17K miles on it. When she breaks, the steering wheel shakes because of the uneven breaking, mine do the same. We're replacing our rotors with cross drilled and slotted EBC rotors to keep them cooler.

As for top spead, every morning coming to work 120-135 only on an open road, clear whether, TPMS displaying proper air pressure.

Welcome to NICO!

Lots of fun driving at high speeds in Infiniti's here. Sometime, when you have time to read, check out the thread titled "Infiniti Speeding Stories". Has some very interesting triple-digit moments listed there.
