According to Weather.com, that was the high today here (once you factor in humidity, the heat index gets up over 110). My vehicle was saying 110 when driving to the pool...and that's what the kids and I did today. I set the thermostat to 84° and left for the pool. It's currently 81 in the house and I am adding bottles of ice to my swamp coolers since I am fermenting a lager (wrong time of the year to maintain 50-52 deg fermentation temps).

How are you all doing in this heat wave? Everyone's cars ok?

My car's coolant control valve (which controls coolant flow to the heater cores) is shot. Blows only max heat. A/C works but the heater ALSO works...all the time.
I DON'T CARE. I didn't wait through 8 months of winter to b**** about the heat.
I turn on the seat coolers, open the sunroof and windows, and smile.

You're a strange creature MoD. I'd hate having the heater blow at me.
I can't run the A/C cause it shoots the coolant temps real high.
After many years of driving like this, I'm pretty used to it.

AC at the end of a hot hunid day is just something else to look for. On the 2 hot days last week I enjoyed a super cold slurpee for the ride, in the AC (in another car), and a cold shower at home.

I don't turn the heater on, I just don't turn the A/C on either. I just mean that the A/C itself works fine, but since the coolant flow to the heater cores is stuck at max, I can't USE A/C since it blows hot. I just leave all the climate control off and let the peltier seat coolers keep me from sweating.

It's a $90 part I've been too lazy to replace.

113* here today, tomorrow, and Saturday. In direct sunlight it hurts like a mother but if you're lucky enough to be in the shade, it isn't so terrible. You acclimate to it pretty quickly. Both of our girls were wearing jeans today...and black t-shirts.

I intended to fix the AC in the Saab but I'm going to be out of town for almost all of July. No point in fixing it until August, and I might not even bother with it this year.

Suppose to be 105 degrees here today, the only saving grace about it is that the humidity is fairly low and i do have a big Porta Cool fan to keep me half a** cool while i work on these hot a** cars.
This heat is really making me seriously think about moving to Flagstaff or Prescott Arizona.

Another pool guy on the boards! I own a small pool and spa service company. The heat is brutal this year. I drank almost 2 gallons of water yesterday and didn't pee once. I can't believe it's not even July yet.

DC was f**king hot. It got to me today. Thats only the first round tho, tomorrow be there at 730 and hopefully not till 6 again. Im ganna throw up, almost did today in fact. First get scalded by the door handle then another burn from your left hand on the side of a black door or trim piece thats been siting out, doppler radaring it since sunrise. Then after you squeeze into the hot stagnant air exiting, full blast to the face of the corona from the sun thats been brewing up in the vents since 5 hours ago. Nope, cant get out so fast now. Your legs are being squeezed by the door from the truck next to it and maybe but... yep, denting in the wheel well alittle bit. I hate trucks anyways. Almost dry heaved little there but managed to keep down pretty good sub from 711 actually, which was good. Chips are good too... Subway right next door is giving me the squirts big time. The point is kids, just gatta do it. Dont be worried that you have no ac on the 40 min ride home either, that free slurpee you won (score), made it something to look forward to.

I had my a/c recharged this past Tuesday and used it a couple of times so far.
It seriously has to be this hot (95+) for me to use it.
That being said, I have a window ac unit in my bedroom so I can sleep at night; old stone farmhouses aren't conducive to cooling off at night.

I absolutely hate winter, summer goes by too quickly. :frown:

Luckily my AC works great, however, if it gets real hot out, I don't like to run my AC in town because I feels it's too hard on my 'Sploder. I just turned over 100k and don't want to kill it.

Changing subjects, I had a GTA (Graduate Teaching Assistant) that always wore pants (not black), and would roll 'em up above his ankles when it got hot - refused to wear shorts. We' always ask if he was hot, etc... When I went to Hollywood to visit my sister one summer, no one there wore shorts either. I was even asked where I lived because I was wearing shorts and it was 90º outside. Odd how different regions act/react to mundane things like that.

Mississippi was getting ignorantly hot, so I left and came to New England. I have a pool, a blender, and a whole lot of ocean at my disposal.

i've been trying to limit a/c usage on my exploder to highway cruising. but the last couple of days, i've resorted to normal a/c on speed 1 or 2 with windows open. i currently have 160k on mine and it's holding up just fine.

I don't understand why people believe that running the A/C will hurt your engine? If you're speaking of the power loss, then just drive slower...

If it's gas usage, then yeah, I understand...

The car's seats are covered in perforated leather and rather than having traditional electric heating elements, they use a peltier heat pump. Peltier pumps can add or remove heat, so you can use them to cool the seats as well as heat them. Each seat has its own fan (which is a LITTLE noisier than I'd like) which blows heated or cooled air through the perforated leather. The seat coolers feel a bit like sitting in a cool stream. It's a bit odd the first time, because it's the kind of cool feeling that makes you think you ARE sweating.

Some seat coolers just route A/C cooled air through perforated leather, but those ones require you to run A/C obviously. Peltier coolers aren't very efficient, though.

i was talking to my cousin the other day who owns a shop and he was telling me how much his business picks up when the hot weather comes around. with the heightened ambient temperature already making your engine warm (i turned my exploder on today after sitting all night and the temp gauge was already off the resting stick), and a possible cooling system not working to optimum efficiency, the extra load on the engine from the a/c being on could possibly cause problems. the majority of people really don't stay on top of preventative maintenance on their vehicles so i can see how it could become an issue.

I'm actually worried about my AC system getting too warm and decreasing its life span. Stop go traffic keeps the temps under the hood hotter than does highway driving, and there's no AC compressor temp gauge on my dash.

Usually compressor temp is linked to refrigerant system pressure... which DOES have a failsafe. If the system gets too pressurized, it shuts down. Unfortunately that happens only when it's super hot, and you need the AC more than ever :(

The goal for Greg and I is to have a home in Prescott one day. The highs rarely venture into the 90s. Yes, please, and thank you. :yesnod Great place for a Summer home, not much snow in the Winter. Flagstaff gets way too much snow / too cold in the Winter.
