Pulled motor and trans out top put motor backin after rebuild. Trying to get trans back in now and it does not fit. So im thinking of dropping motor amd subframe. 4 largebolts to drop all that right? Gimme a hand if you have some experience. Thanks!

Left my trans/motor combo together when I did my rebuild. Could not see myself removing the transmission when the motor was fully mounted so I just left them intact. Is not to difficult if I recall. A little more to it than the 4 bolts and subframe depending on how low you need to drop it.

I tore it all apart to reco a lot of lines, leaky gaskets, ect on engine and trans. I put motor in first to make sure I got timing all right befire I lugged that heavy trans in place. Should of just done itto begin with now I have a motor that is in 100% and need to drop it like 2" just to c lear trans tunnel

That sucks I was hoping replacing the rear main seal on one of my Q's would have been a little easier than dropping the engine.

Yeah doing rear main is gonna be a paint man. Unbolting trans and getting it out of its location is damn near impossble. I just need a quick ez way to drop the motor and suspension a few inches for clearance.

I opted to remove both intact when I did my swap for the same reason. Even though I had access to every tool in the book I calculated it was that much easier to remove them both at the same time. I actually didn't do an engine swap but a body swap. I took the combo out from the bottom, raised the body off and lowered the new body on. But given the lift I was using that was the most reasonable way. Get some pics uploaded and I may be able to help more.

Paul, If you are doing your rear main seal could you do a write-up? Also If you pick a good date maybe I could come down and watch/help. Unless you want to come up this way towards exit 2 on the turnpike in the Berkshires. Garage has been open lately...

So to drop the front xmember and motor just a few inches you think it would be ez enough to just unbolt the 4 main nuts that hold the xmember to the car, keep ing a Jack under it and slowly dropping it? I feel like that would work and let everything Cole down veeeeery slow with it.

I'm a little puzzled. I just had my transmission replaced by a shop that sells JDM motors and transmission. The labor quote to r&r the transmission was about 7 hours.

Yeah maybe with a lift they manage to get everything unbolted and dropped down really quick. Doing a clutch in my S13 is an hour and a half job by myself, stupid EZ. This is just a pain. I need to quit my job i work 60+ hrs a week so finding to to wrench is getting hard.

Three nuts on each side drop the cradle. I think the lower control arm must be unbolted to get to the middle nut.

Steve when I get the accumulators recharged I will make the trip out their. Do you have tools I can borrow or should I bring my own? What kind of lifts do you have?

Yeah managed to get an hour of work in on it this evening before im ready to pass out. Pulled wheels off, unbolted the sway bar, dropped the control arms 3 17mm bolts on each side. Lowered the engine set about 6" but the PS & alternator pullies are hitting so it pushes the motor back to far so still cant manage to get the trans in. So tomorrow morning ill unbolt the tension rod brackets and be able to move engine forward enough to finally mate the damn trans to the motor. Its amazing how large the bellhousing is and it just doesnt allow you mate the trans into the converter. At this point would of just been easier to pull motor back out the top but the car is on jack stands and theres no way to get a hoist infront of the car.

Lesson learned.

White90esex, I managed to drop and replace my 95 G50 tranny without moving or unbolting anything at all, from the engine. I did have to unhook the exhaust from the back, letting it hang down and allowing me to get the bellhousing up enough to line back up with the engine bolt holes. Thinking back now, I believe the hanging exhaust helped quite alot since it weighed down and tilted the engine back downwards, allowing proper tranny bolt alignment. And all of this was done while the car's front wheels were on ramps and the back was up on jack stands, no lift, in my driveway, by myself, with only a two ton floor jack to lift the tranny in place. I know it can be done and you don't have to drop the engine cradle. Really long ratchet extension bars and a swivel adaptor are a must, for catching those top housing bolts. The engine hangs, but just barely enough to get those tranny bolts back on.
BTW, if you do try dropping the exhaust like I did, unhook your upper radiator hose from the radiator first or it will put stress on and crack the radiator when the engine drops that far back. Good luck.

Damn that's crazy. I have the back on ramps and the front sky high on stands. Already dropped everything down but before I got a chance to put the trans back in it was time to go back to work.

Hopefully will be all wrapped up and driveable soon. Owned the car for almost three years and I've never driven it lol

I have had my 1990 Q45 for 4 years and probably driven it 100 kilometres in that time
