Federal SS595 Drift Competition Tire:

You know the brand; if you don't, you're missing out. Federal Tires are super sticky for the price! If you were at SEMA last month or some drift events recently, you'll notice that Federal Motorsports is an active supporter of the US and Japanese drift scene. Used by choice, not by sponsorship, by Japan's top drifters.

These tires last and last, and they don't chunk from drifting! We've had many customers report putting on a set, going to a drifting event, and driving home on the same set of Federals! Of course, we still recommend having extra tires just in case you go a little crazy with the donuts .

Even though these tires are for "drift competition," they are also very good for grip. We are currently running Federal tires ourselves for autocross competition regionally, and are proud to report that they are definitely one of the stickier and better tires we've run.

Enough talk, on to the deal! For the month of December, all Nico members receive 5% off the already low price on our site!

Enter the coupon code federalfive at checkout to receive your discount.

All available sizes are listed on our site, and there is currently plenty in stock.

Local pickup is welcome! Please also checkout through the site and choose "Will Call" under the Payment method option. We will contact you as soon as the tires arrive at our shop. Shipping is approximately $10-30 per tire depending on your location. Visit our web site for an exact quote.

Please visit FRSport.com to order. Or go directly to the Federal Tire section: Federal SS595 Drift Competition Tires

Treadwear for SS595: 240 on most tires, 260 on some.Full Spec Sheet: Federal SS595 Spec Sheet (PDF)

You can calculate all costs directly through our web site! Just proceed to checkout, enter your info, and you can figure out the final costs before placing an order.

We also carry a wide variety of other tires, but those are not on our site yet. For any other specific tires you would like, give us a call or email, and I'll get you a quote ASAP!

Id like to ask a Q if I can...

Ive got a '90 240 with opened arches and a B-Magic 30mm WB kit.. 17x9 Work wheels. Currently, I've got some real bald 225-45/17s and they look stretched on the 9" wheel... is it best to go to a 245 or 255? If so, what profile - 40 or 45? The car's got Tein coilovers, so the ride is like a rock anyway.. =)

Of course 225 looks stretched on a 9" rim, it's because the tire width is smaller than the rim width .

Anyway, it all depends on your personal preference, goals, etc. 245 & 255 will both fit less stetched than the 225 you have right now.

For the 245, I would go w/ a 40 profile, which will put you closer to stock tire diameter. For the 255, I would go for a 35 profile (which isn't available w/ ss595) or a 40 profile (which is available for ss595 - currently is very close to your current 225/45R17 diameter tires).

You can see what other nico members are running by going through the Tire/Suspension Forum, Drift Forum, AutoX/Road Racing Forum sub sections of Nico.

I personally ran 225's on my old 9" setup - I liked the stretched .

So you have an idea, for my next road racing setup, I plan on running 245's in the front w/ 9" rims, 265 or so in the rear w/ 10" rims. Then go larger/smaller from there.

I'd really like to hear some reviews on these tires. I know they are designed as drifting tires, but I'd like to know how they perform as a daily driven/ auto-x tire. Anyone have personal experience with these yet?

We compete in auto-x locally w/ these tires . But don't take our word for it, a couple reviews from our other customers on the other forums:
Ricks15 from So Cal wrote:Fed's SS595 are dope ive got them on my car, good *** grip in dry and in rainy conditions
koukie180 from So Cal wrote:hahaha I love these tires. good grip at autox, looks mean, cheap enough to do burnouts all day!! You seriously can't go wrong with these tires.

I'm running 235/40/17 & 255/40/17 and they perform great. Bang for the bucks!
The "drifting" designation of these tires are because of the ridiculously stiff sidewalls, which hold up much better than other tires when sliding. Also, the compound is designed different to not chunk up and break apart when driving very aggressively.

At the same time, these are a little heavier than other tires because of the stainless steel sidewalls - so you have to weigh your options and see what is best for you.

I've personally only competed in Yokohama Parada Spec 2's, Bridgestone RE750's, Kumho Supra 712's, Kumho Ecsta SPT's, & Federal SS595's. The Federals easily beat the Kumho's hands down. They seem stickier than the Bridgestones & Yokohamas I have used, but they were on different cars, so I can't do a direct tire-to-tire comparison just yet.

As a reference, Our sales person Cat was holding her own @ the last autox we attended in November 2006 against Subaru's running Azenis 615 & against a good amount of the cars/drivers there. Just coilovers, vlsd, and 17" Federals.

My dad will be ordering a set of tires for his car in the near future and these look to be one of the top choices. If you don't mind I'd like to ask a few questions as well.

So these beat the Kuhmo 712 and SPT. No offense but that shouldn't be hard from the reviews they get. How do the federals compare to the Kuhmo MX? At their price point that's really all we need to know since the MX's are at the cheaper end of their class.

Do you have specs on these tires? Like wieghts and measurements? You mentioned these were a little heavier than other tires. How much heavier are they? According to the Tire Rack a Kuhmo MX in 245/40/17 wieghs 23 lbs. Squishy sidewall included.

Thanks for the info in advance.

With MX, I can't give you a personal direct comparison. However, my co-worker ran Kumho MX before switching to Federal's. The MX didn't seem to handle heat well - after a few laps, even with watering it down w/ ice cold water from the "tire sprayer", it just loses a lot of its grip. The Federals are taking the abuse much better.

As more people use these (already noticing significantly more people using these tires daily & track over the past year or two), there will be more reviews - hopefully all good!

Although I'm guessing you are more concerned with grip from your questions, I'll include some drifting info . The MX's tear up very easily at the old drift days some co-workers attended when they were still around. The Federals... alll day long baby .

As for weight, a 245/40R17 Federal SS595 is approximately 24.69 lbs (weighed 11.2 KG direct from Federal Tire Site). That would be an additional 6.76 lbs of rotating mass. Not significant for most, but a big deal for a few.

Tread width of the Federal SS595 in 245/40R17 is 218mm.

Looking forward to the order! And thank you everyone for the purchases so far, get em while they're hot! .

Thanks for the info!

The extra wieght doesn't seem to bad. The MX's are a little lighter than some other tires I've seen in those sizes so 24.x a tire doesn't sound to bad. Particualy for a daily driven tire. Yeah, we're definatly more worried about grip.

We'll probably be a couple of weeks on ordering anything though.

Get ready for all your drift/track events coming up! These things last like crazzzzyyyyy.

One of our customers just went to the Streets of Willow this past weekend & reported great grip w/ very good wear - about 4 hours track time, 3 hours worth of commuting, and a few months of daily driving & still has plenty of treadwear! AWESOME!

They don't stack up against 615's grip wise from what I've seen... Federal's 615 equivalent would be the 595RS, which is extremely ridiculously soft & sticky. However, dollar for dollar, I'd say they are stickier . We can get you SS595, 595RS, Falken 615's, etc - just give us a call. Still working on getting more products on the site.

For Federal SS595, we only carry the sizes listed on our site; so sorry, no 205/50R15's .

I have a question.... I am currently running 235/40's on a 9" up front and 255/40's on a 10" in the rear. Now I didn't select these, they came with the wheels I bought off my friend.

I did the math and to I need to run 235's up front to tuck the fender on suspension compression, and I wanted to elminate a little more fender gap on the front without lowering my car since it is already pretty damn low already. Anyway my predicament is that a few of my friends run these tires and I would like to try them out. The only problem is that I want to run 235/45's and to balance out OD and sidewall height I need to run 265'40s in the rear which I'm sure you can figure out that Federal jumps from a 255 to a 275. Is there anyway I can get a special order tire size or is it back to the drawing board?

Unfortunately, Federal just straight up doesn't offer a 265/XXR17 Federal (SS595 or 595RS).

The 595EVO, which we are still waiting for those Federal guys to release!, will have a 265/40R17" diameter. ETA on that is unknown - I was hoping they were going to release it sooner, but no word on it yet.

Run 255 in front & 275 in the rear .

There is no way in hell I can tuck 255's up front without rolling the front fenders which I don't want to do.
