Hi: I have a 2002 I-35,, I'm wondering if this v-6 3.5 liter engine run by timing belt or timing chain,,, ?? it's 60k miles on the clock now, I really need to find out the answer..

Please let me know.

also I have a 2001 QX4, v-6 3.5 liter also.. almost 60k miles on the clock,,, same question.. belt or chain??

All Nissan 3.5's have chains. No service interval on those.

thanks guys, I asked the smae question on the yahoo site... those ppl told me they both run by belt just wondering if they ever own a Nissan.. or maybe they got used to the Honda design..

Ahhh, that's kind of worrying. I guess it's better than telling someone who has a belt they have a chain that never needs changing, though.

The Pathfinder actually DID have a belt up until 2000, but 2001 was the first year the truck used the new VQ35 which has a chain.

The 3.5 in both your cars is essentially the same motor, just rearranged for the different layouts.

Dual stage timing chain. No need to replace it for the life of the car.

timing chains on both cars. you dont need to service them at all unless you start to hear a whining noise coming from there then you need to replace the tensioners.. they will wear over time..
