The car in question: http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.js ... listType=1

So I currently have a 2012 VW GTI that I purchased new, and I'm thinking of trading it in for this 06 M35 Sport. I do enjoy the GTI, but to be honest I'd like to get back to my roots - Nissan manufactured V6 sedan. My first car was a 92 Maxima and I loved it. Plus lower monthly payments would be nice too, but this isn't a money issue.

What kind of things should I look out for when checking this car out? I don't know anybody that has an M, so I don't really have a reference. The 86,xxx miles doesn't scare me at all, but what kind of things can I expect the car to need? Possibly stuff I can ask the dealer to do - timing belt, tires, etc.

Any other general advice you guys have, I'd like to hear as well. Thanks in advance!

I think that car may have appeared on the forum before... hmm..
Sorry, I don't have much to say about things going wrong because it hasn't happened to me!

Car looks in good shape and it's at in Infiniti Dealer which is good. It has a clean car fax. The recall is no big deal just make sure it's done and they've properly inspected it. Ask for the service bill so you know what's been done. Then if necessary purchase the IEPP (Infiniti Extended Protection Plan) then you'll have total peace of mind with the warranty!

I work at an Infiniti dealer and recently purchased a 2007 M35 with 65K on it that was a trade in. Thing runs like and looks like new and will for a long time!

Looks like a good find!! Ugly billet grill though
-Advance tech package is a major plus!! (5.1 Bose studio surround sound DVD and DVD audio system+ other safety features!!)
-Sport package is a plus!!!
Really not much maintenance that is or should be "required" on this model yr and mileage except for checking out the drive belts for wear!!! All other maintenance is recommended but not required depending on driving habits... For example, driving in dusty (desert) conditions... Lots of heavy city stop and go traffic etc.

This V6 M is very dependable, does not have a timing but but rather a timing chain which does not need to be changed!!! First thing you want to do or ask the dealer to do is change out fluids as a preventive measure!!!
-coolant flush
-rear differential fluid
-transmission service

Good luck and you'll love the much added space!!! :dblthumb:

Car looks pretty clean...fairly low miles.
you may want to use the Search function (not the greatest or easiest to use, but some good info on a few things to look out for):

just a few quick things off the top of my head:
1. some folks have had premature rotor warping/wear with the OEM rotors
2. driver seat rail issue - can break and the seat moves when the car turns, especially if you put on some holiday weight :chuckle:
3. a few have had issues with their side mirrors not moving properly or returning back into place once car is in reverse
4. poor Bluetooth hands free call quality (there was a technical service bulletin to fix that, you can also search that since it has been discussed)
5. only a very few unlucky VQ motors have had the oil consumption issue, more with the VK (V8/M45), but just make sure the oil level hasn't been perpetually running low
6. the Y-pipe rattle (again, may want to search that)

tired, just worked till midnight last night, can't think of anything else at the moment...sorry

if you don't like the billet grill, you can always source a decent used one and plasti-dip it black, keeping the top and bottom chrome piece.

If you like the billet grill...diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks!

let us know if you pull the trigger and get it...you won't be sorry

good luck and welcome to NICO if you end up getting it

Craig

Ah no I didn't... wasn't able to get out there and check it out. I'll be keeping my eye out for ones that pop up locally because I at least want to test drive the M and see what it's about.

Not sure what's local for you, but my cousin is selling her M that I sold to her last year. In the Atlanta area.
