Glad to know I'm not alone.smockers83 wrote:Guys,
I'm thinking about getting rid of the G. I've developed a big gripe with the car, that being the quality of the paint, which is right up there for me with regular maintenance in the longevity of the car. The paint is supposed to look nice and all, but most of all, it's supposed to protect the metal from the elements.
Also, the car is starting to not inspire me like it used to. Don't get me wrong, it's a great car, but it's no longer giving me the chub it used to.
All of this, and I see it getting more and more impractical. I think now may be the time to trade it in for something more practical while it still commands a decent price.
Convince me otherwise or give me your opinions on a new vehicle. I'm looking for something with AWD or 4x4, something I can transport more than 2 golf bags with, something I can load up skis/snowboards with, and maybe eventually tow some jet skis. I don't want a truck, more of a SUV.
Do some research. I've been talking to a friend who says that the Nissan 5 liter V8 is less than reliable.joe603 wrote:I'll be getting an FX eventually...we'll see about the FX50, maybe I can get one used for a steal.
Doubt it's a mistake when he's processing all of the service department replacement part orders and replacement enginesPoyzinous wrote:your friend is mistaken, or has a one in a million. Rock solid over here. And Joe, I can get you a stolen FX50. But must be candid about it... I too however have wondered why the FX and G use the giant boulder muffler instead of allowing more trunk room and/or full size spare. Its the trademark infiniti exhaust howl... But someone is working on it.
Wife loved the rental 4 Runner we had a few months back, but it's as practical as the G is right now. NOT AT ALL.tollboothwilley wrote:Get a 4Runner. We got my wife a 2005 back in April 2008 and its been awesome. Take it up in the mountains, its a champ in snow, 4 wheels like it owns the road and can pull pretty well.
I like having the 4WD in the winter with all the snow during the winter here in Utah.
My thoughts on your brakes...xjaywalker wrote:What timing....I was just logging in to see if any one knew how to fix all the rattling noises and me squeaky brakes. I bought the car in Feb. with only 4500 miles on it and now it is up to 20K and it sounds like its falling apart. One dealer told me if I did not like rattling noises I should not have bought the coupe. I have been to the dealer 3 times so they could fix the squeaky brakes. Turned the rotors on the front first, then the back, then they replaced the pads in the front and greesed everything. Quiet for 2 days then the sqeak came back.
I agree the car body design is awesome and she is very fas, and handles great.....guess I want it all.
My 2002 4X4 4Runner has 130K and handles all my towing (waverunners), mountian bikes and surfboard gear. So, I would like to stick to a sports car.
except on sharp turns...smockers83 wrote: If I got an SUV, I wouldn't be able to have that kind of fun unless I got the Jeep with the Viper engine.
Test drove a 4-runner...hated it! The driver/passenger seat had no leg room and the wife didn't like the styling (rear hatch tire). Plus it was overpriced...we ended up getting a Mitsu Outlander XLS. It has a standard 3rd row, V6, and 6-speed AUTO (not CVT). We love it so far!tollboothwilley wrote:Get a 4Runner. We got my wife a 2005 back in April 2008 and its been awesome. Thanks Nate...Mission Viejo Infiniti. They were very cool about everything. I am just getting a little tired going back every time. Maybe I got a lemon. I like driving with the sunroof open and the windows down (weather permitting). Don't hear the rattles in the dash, but I have to put up with the squeaky brakes. Roll up the windows and close the sunroof and I have the rattles in the dash and behind the driver seat around the rear side window. This only happens when I drive over concrete roads or rough roads. Maybe I am being way to sensitive and now I am focused in on all noises. OK time to take it back again and get the SM involved.Sentientbydesign wrote:

I can't drive around a 2 ton brick 100+ miles per day. My gas bill is around $350/mo. With the 4 runner, it would likely go up to around $500. NO THANK YOU!
I agree that it's a great vehicle for it's purpose, but I don't have any toys to haul and the family consists of me, my wife, and our son. No need for the additional 5(?) seats.
My thoughts on your brakes...
1. Which dealer are you going to? I'd pimp slap any SA that told me that I shouldn't have bought the coupe if I wanted a quiet vehicle. Actually, I'd report that Dbag to his manager or to Customer Affairs or to the Inner Circle Program when they call you (I always get a follow up call after any service).
2. You might consider going to Riverside Infinit. It's a trek, but I've had about a 90% satisfaction rate with them (except for their magical el cheapo oil that doesn't burn in my engine).
3. Eeek. It might be you... If you brake funny, or if you don't break in the pads correctly, they'll make noises.
And a last thought, you have at least 5 dealerships within 100 miles of you. The only one I can say for sure to stay away from is Infiniti of Montclare as both their sales and service department are Dbag crooks. I remember spending $2600 to have the timing chain cover resealed on my I30 and part of that service is for them to replace the seals/gaskets on all of the rest of the engine while it's out. They didn't AND they banged up the engine and left deep scarring on it. So a few months later, I have another random oil leak.
