So I test drove a R32 GTR last night and really enjoyed the experience. I would have bought the car except for a few issues, the biggest one being I heard the turbo death whine. Since the price on the car isn't to bad I was wondering what my options were for replacing the turbos. I'd like to sit somewhere north of 500 hp and in my experience that usually means going single turbo. Usually i would drive the car for a little before upgrading but the current situation call for a more immediate action. So the question is, if I do decide to do this, how much is a turbo kit going to cost me and what options are out there, especially since I'm located in the USA?

Welcome to Nico!
I'm not a GTR guy, but in my Z32 area the twin turbos are still the best route and I'd advise you to stay with them as at least in the Z32 world, there are turbo kits well into the 700+ range (GTX 700's IIRC?) available at around $4K with all the necessities. I am running what would be considered a mid range upgrade turbo (JWT 530bb) good up to 500+HP in my '93 TT and nearly positive that the GTR can run the same turbos, but could be wrong.
Hopefully someone more able to pinpoint GTR parts costs can elaborate on the exact turbo kits to look at, and costs, but you also can visit vendors such as Z1 and Concept Z performance and other Nissan performance sites to check their inventories for GTR turbo kits and add-ons.

This is a popular topic, and here is myth busted, as shared on another GTR forum:

Straight 6 engine doesn't have to deal with a cross over pipe like a V6 (such as Z31's single setup), and with a properly designed manifold there are more pros than cons.

So that video seems to point me to the single turbo route. Correct me if I'm wrong but one of the weak points of the this engine is the head bolts right?

The video basically says that with money not being an issue in any way, a fancy a** twin scroll turbo is the best performer.

In reality, and what everyone pretty much does, is they upgrade to the Garrett 2860R-5 turbos. They are a direct bolt on. They will make 500HP with the right tune, and still are responsive, unlike a massive standard single.

Cheaper too, they only usually cost about $2200 at your door with gaskets and everything. First power mod that goes into my car is these turbos for reliability. I'm only looking for 400-425 RWHP though.

I went 2860r-5 but I have not tuned yet. I'll let you know as soon as I get my AEM infinity and tune

2860r's with stand alone/tune and supporting mods with hi flow in and out of the engine will easily put you in the 500HP range.
