PLOT
Set in the Middle Ages, the evil wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria) discovers the Smurf's village and chases them into some woods. The Smurfs get scattered and Clumsy Smurf (voiced by Anton Yelchin) wanders into a "forbidden" grotto and some of the other Smurfs follow. Since it's also a blue moon, a magical portal within the grotto transports them into Central Park in New York. They take shelter with a married couple (Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays) and try to find a way back to their village before Gargamel finds them.

* Hank Azaria as Gargamel, the arch-nemesis of the Smurfs who plots to use the Smurfs as part of a spell which would help him produce gold. As opposed to the television show where Gargamel's goal is capture and eat the Smurfs; in the film he wants to capture them to serve as charms, "whose mystical essence will make his inept magic more powerful — and dangerous".
* Neil Patrick Harris as Patrick Winslow; Grace's husband who is expecting their first child.
* Jayma Mays as Grace Winslow; Patrick's wife who is pregnant with their first child.

I can't think of a cartoon I hated more than the smurfs. I also can't think of anyone I know who didn't hate the smurfs.

I'm going to laugh when this BOMBS in theaters. Do they actually think people will PAY to see it? If you're young enough to find it entertaining, you won't even know what a smurf is. And if you're old enough to know what a smurf is, you probably aren't going to be up for spending $10 to see this movie.

I hope someone loses millions of dollars on this.

For the folks that never made the connection:
-All the folks look the same.
-Everyone wears little white hats.
-The leader wears a red hat.
-Their villain, Gargamel, is clearly a Jew/Gypsy who wants to capture the smurfs so he can turn them into gold. He is also a sorcerer/magician, further fitting the many stereotypes.
-In the comic, there was also a bug that could sting/bite you, turning you black and making you only able to speak gibberish and yell.
