The dealer had the Pathfinder for 2 days, and replaced the over-sized tires that were rubbing with Mastercraft Courser HSX tires P255/65R16, front brake pad and rotors, and flushed the brake fluid. Although, the fluid is full to the top of the spout. I can post a pic if it will help.

I'm not fond of the coursers, I prefer a more aggressive tire just in case I need to take it into the muddy fields, and I have a concern with "walking" on water on flood prone roads nearby.

The PS fluid is nice and clear red, and quite full, no burnt smell. They "ordered" an after-market catalytic converter and want it replaced at a local pipe shop.

Thank you so much for your help, and the wealth of information here.

Now all I have to do is get a clock/repair the original and have the two rust spots fixed before fall.

I really like the way it runs and feels. It's a smaller than I'm used too, but it's pretty impressive!

What vehicle did you used to have?

I always find it interesting to hear the vehicle someone gave up to get the Pathfinder.

95 Chevy Tahoe (Silverado) 2 door 4WD LS, prior to that 89 K-5, prior to that a 77 K-5 Blazer (just like the one in Jaws) all 350 engines.

So, I'm used to bigger vehicles, but the Pathfinder is very impressive, and I really enjoy driving it!

We're glad to be of help! :)

The brake fluid level should be at the "MAX" line when parked on flat ground. If it is over the line, go back to the dealer and have them siphon fluid out to fix the problem.

Were your inner wheel bearings also regreased during the brake rotor replacement? It isn't necessary, but it's convenient to do so during such service and doesn't take much longer.

I'd be doubtful if they did. The only reason they are following up is the dealer warranty, and the fact they inspected the damn thing with bad brakes, tires 3 times larger than issued, and the SES light.

They gave me a really hard time about even looking at it. Can I siphon that fluid myself? The less I have to do with this seller the better.

I got the impression that you were getting this service done at a Nissan dealership, not some generic used car dealership place. Typically a Nissan dealer would not be so careless in such case. Certainly, you can siphon fluid yourself. Buy a turkey baster from the dollar store to do so.

The "Dealer" sells Chevrolet/Acura/Honda/Cadillac and Fiat.

The service department leaves tons to be desired. The NIssan dealer they took it to actually spoke to me after it was brought in because I had called them with the VIN requesting recall info and code info. I'm sure if they knew that they'd fart a brick. :nono:

I'd like to clean up the battery area too, it's terribly corroded. Any suggestion there?

A mix of baking soda & water will remove battery corrosion. Do not overtighten the battery terminals as this can cause the posts to crack and leak battery acid, resulting in constant corrosion. After cleaning both the posts and terminals (and ideally, the other end of the battery cables), use these these anti-corrosion donuts to help prevent future corrosion.

Welcome aboard!

I always coat my terminals and posts with a thin layer of dielectric grease (great stuff to have in the garage) - Prevents corrosion indefinitely. :)
