I was looking to remove my step up bars. I went to see how to do it and found four bolts holding them onto the brackets and no matter what i tried i couldnt seem to get them loose. Any solutions or other ways to get the bars off?

The bolts are all 12mm. See BT-42 for a diagram of which bolts to remove.

One time I took step bars off. Since I got used to having them on, it looked weird without. I put them back on after a few days. I think two ends of the bar are contoured towards the wheel fender trim smoothly so it would look abroupt without the bar. Pathfinder bar is probably different.

there are actually 6 bolts on each step bar. there are 2 in the front, 2 in the middle and 2 in the back (these are at a weird angle and a bit higher than the others). to loosen them i would spray some wd-40 on them and let it sit for a while then take off the back 2 then the front 2 and leave the middle for last so it stays balance while your taking it off.

Okay cool thanks PJSnow. Anyone have any pics with them off? I would hate to take them off and find out it looks weird after.

I took them off mid 2007. I actually like the look much better with them off.

I have recently installed rock sliders, function plus clean look. Not that great though for use as steps.

Your turning diameter must be ginormous.

I'm pretty sure he just put the tires in front of the tires that are actually mounted to see what they would look like...

That's exactly correct. I ended up spraying the pictured silver wheels with black Plasti-dip, and wanted a "pre-dip" picture. The "post-dip" picture is up there, with the wheels on. Came out nice I think, and still are just as nice.

At the time of the picture, I had my winter tire & wheelset on. My winter wheels are the "newer" version 6 spoke I got off a local guy who went with aftermarket wheels.

Those are the wheels that came stock on my Path. Never liked them. They actually look good black.

Original Poster, step bars very easy to take off. Soak bolts with PB Blaster if needed the night before. I had to remove mine as they were rusting apart... Looks better with them off, but they did keep rocks to minimum hitting the body. The negatives of wide wheels/tires.... Still trying to get an affordable set of stock running boards off an LE. Have not found one set of aftermarket bars that I like.

Not sure where you're at, but I just saw some of the flat type (?LE) listed on local Craigslist.

Edit-I thought I saw 'em. Linky link:

Thanks Camel, Those are the Exact running boards I am looking for. I am in the midwest, most bars/boards here are destroyed by salt. Shipping is usually the killer.

Took them off finally after 5 rounds of pb blaster. There was actually 7 screws on each side, there was an hidden one in the back. Looks good, makes it look higher. Photos a little blurry sorry. Thanks for the help.
