Takeda intake install on my M35

Postby CGinev » Mon Feb 07, 2011 5:44 pm

Picked up a Takeda intake to couple w/ my Stillen catback. The tone is a good bit deeper now as well as a bit of top end power gain. Going in for an upRev tune in the next couple of days.

i'm not sure if you bought the uprev software and cable but if you do have it, can you please do some logging. i want to know what the IAT is with this mod on vs. stock intake.

also - do you foresee any intake manifold spacer mod on your list? supposedly adds power and yields higher MPG. one can only assume advertisement is true without first hand data.

I didn't buy anything yet in terms of uprev and wasn't planning on buying the full package as this is probably going to be a one time tune on this car. I can however log my intake temps via my SnapOn brick.

As for the intake manifold spacer, doubt I will go that route. I'm happy where the car is at right now power wise. I have other projects to satisfy my thirst for power. :naughty:

well the cable and software is 200 dollars and you can log your car for etunes. anyway whenever you're free, please do some IAT logging and post them. i also open to other users who have different intake system and a mean to log IAT to participate. this is going to help us understand whether intake worth it on the M-series or not.

i have intake and spacer.

spacer has netted significant gains for the vq35de since its creation. most spacers show 10+whp gains. i suggest aam angled

I'm honestly not looking for a ton of power out of this car...just a little more pep. Just like you, I have several toys that fill that need. ;)

so i wasn't pushing you to spend tons of money on a family car. however as you stated, you own a shop so think of it as an investment. As you document these changes, and start carrying the product for retail and installation, i'm sure you somewhat will regain some of that investment money. beside, it doesn't hurt to have more customer come by your shop for business or simply browsing.

enigma, i suggested aam because thats what ive always had the most success with. ive been through 4 different intake manifolds on my z since it went turbo'd, no manifold has come close to the power that my custom ported oem w/ aam spacer made. since im going ls1 turbo in that z, my track car z is getting that same manifold passed down to it.

cginev, im not looking to increase power in my m at all, but im adding bolt ons to help the car breathe a little better (extra power is just a plus). with the intake, and spacer ive seen 2 mpg average increase. also with the spacer i help the front 2 cylinders from starving for air (if you look the front is angled down). by adding the spacer you increase air flow to the 2 front starving cylinders, which was a poor design in the z/g/fx/m vq35. and lastly a catch can and pcv mod to eliminate oil from getting into the manifold. (if you take off the top part of your manifold on a stock engine, guarantee youll find oil in the lower collector)

if its for the m35 it should. i dont know if your aem is the cold air, but if its a short ram it should fit just fine, as the m's bay has tons of room. also, the hfc should fit as i believe the z/g/m/fx use the same headers/cats.

Also I know you said you paid wholesale since you own the shop, but what do you sell them for?

Where can you buy these, do they make them for the m45 model and how much is it?

Hey CGinev, nice intake. I have the same model M, I'm cool with the sound of my car (original exhaust) so I have not planned for a new exhaust system, my question, is the exhaust system required for extra hp or can I get away with just the intake? I don't want to increase the sound just add a little more power.

thanks for all useful replies.

your better off with a K&N drop-in filter for the M45, no aftermarket air intake kit has shown real hp gains without losing bottom end torq.

it hasn't even been proven with a tune yet. :nono:
