i have a 90' 240sx and just did a sr20 swap. speedometer works but only like 50/50? and tachometer never works. i searched around here and saw i'd need a 91-93 cluster or a jdm one so i bought one. just got done putting it in and nothing it still does not work. could the jdm cluster i got be a 89-90 one? it redlines at 9k if that helps.

The plug could've fell off the speed sensor.

Or the speed sensor could be malfunctioning.

Which one did you get? Also I second the speed sensor as a probable source. Does the tach even move or is it just inaccurate?

i got the jdm cluster. just got everything put back together and it works now and reads the kmph perfect. but still no tachometer. the tach doesn't move at all never has. were does it get its signal from? is it from the speed sensor too? sorry i am new to nissans, i use to be a civic guy were it reads from the distributor.

IIRC the JDM cluster has to be modified to readout properly for speed and RPM. For speed the potentiometer has to be adjusted I think and a resistor added.

Directly from the ECU/Speed sensor.

There are going to be two wires from the ECU that you want to focus on. One (If you had a DOHC harness at least) should be yellow with a red stripe (Tach) and yellow with a green stripe (Speed) I think. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong for certain though.

Sounds like you got your wiring wrong for the tach.

BYAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! That was wrong. I was thinking about making the JDM speedo for 180 kph read in MPH. It'll work fine as it is for KM/H.

That'd be my guess, just the speed sensor would be off.

No just a resistor to alter the signal from the speed sensor so the Speedo thinks it's reading KM/H when it is reading MPH.
