We've all been there. You drive something for a while, you get tired of it, you trade it in on something else. Lather, rinse, repeat. Right? We seem to have a different sort of philosophy in this house. I think most people would at least classify us as hoarders of many things: cars, memorabilia, kids, animals, etc. I swear there is some strange magnetic force hidden in this house somewhere that just drags in 'stuff' while we aren't looking.

Anyway, as many of you may remember, I posted up a thread asking advice on 4 door hatches. I love the Insight, still do. I just needed something a little bit bigger. Not SUV bigger, just three-people-instead-of-two bigger. One thing I was sure of, unfortunately, was that there was nothing on the Nissan lot that fit the bill. I wanted a manual and that bumped me down to the Z, Versa, and Sentra. Z is too small and I was looking for something with a little more power and sportier / better-looking than the Versa or the Sentra. Call it a mid-life crisis, whatever, don't care. I was just ready to get into a fun car that would hold more than 2 people.

I drove the ST Hatch. Although there some things I loved about, there were some things that I definitely didn't. I felt every little bump in the road and the seats were not at all what I expected. Also, the back seat was pretty much non-existent. I looked at WRX, I looked at the Mazda6, the Speed3. Well, unbeknownst to me, Greg was cooking up something. The night I drove the Speed3, I came home just blown away. I couldn't shut up about it because it was just everything that I wanted. However, I have never owned a brand new car before, and was pretty much set on never buying one. But like I said, Greg had other plans.

He messaged me yesterday while I was at school wanting to know if I'd go out to dinner with him. I said yes, so fast forward three hours later and we're driving down Bell road....right past the Mazda dealership. At the intersection, he says, "we're a little early for dinner, let's do something" and he turns into the lot. He says, "show me this car you've been raving about". Well, I walk up to the building where it was parked and it's gone. I had driven it several days before, so I wasn't surprised that someone had snatched it up. About that time, a sales guy comes out and introduces himself. The fact that Greg didn't immediately become defensive and say "Piss Off" should have been my first clue... the fact that the guy says, "well come on in and I'll see if I can locate one for you"...should have been my second one. I walk into the showroom and there's the car, in the middle of the showroom with a big red bow on it. STILL not getting it, I said, "someone's already bought it". Greg turns to me, laughs, and said, "Yeah, they did. It's yours." I am loved beyond measure (and good common sense, apparently). I only wish we had enough time to drive it to Carlisle. :yesnod

So, here she is. Sweet #16. You've guys have got to help me out with a name because this one's not going anywhere.

Very nice! Those look great in white. Even more so with the black wheels. Have any shots of the interior?

NICE! Even with the gigantosmile it's a Hell of a fun car. It's not often I get jealous about 4-cylinder front drivers, but I'm a little jealous now.

Flawless execution on Greg's part. Impressive really.

You really can't go wrong with the speed 3. STELLAR resale value, great fun to drive, great versatility, and admirable fuel economy. Shame on Nissan for not making anything that can compete (Nismo Versa hatch??? Why not, I will never understand).

Let me know when the NICO Mazda subforum pops up, I'll be first in line to moderate :)

Congrats Bex! I drove the same car at The Mitty a couple weeks ago. Mazda brought one for the Kumho Test Drive we had. I got the pleasure of taking the speed 3 to put gas in it. I had about the same reaction as you and still think about it. Great choice and what a great car! I still think about how enjoyable the car was 2 weeks later haha!

Congrats Bex, btw I completely agree, the MS3 is by far the best overall in the class and not at all bad to look at and so much fun to drive! Congrats again. As for the name how about Missy or Mizzy (I know it sounds like a stripper name but somehow in my head it kinda fits)

Congrats on the new ride :dblthumb:

As far as names, you know I love to brainstorm. how about:

Samantha or Sam (lead character from the movie Sixteen Candles)
Jemima (smooth as syrup)
Ol Bessie (especially if you plan to keep it a long time)
Abigail: (as in Dear Abby)
Bubba: a quality name..(ahem) but if it's to be female, how about Bubbette?
Nala: no wait, on second thought, forget that one.
Glinda: (as in wizard of Oz?)

Then there are the timeless classics (I know "Greg" is already taken), but perhaps:

Hortense
Mabel
Mildred
Sophie
Martha
Gloria

Enjoy

Congrats Bex! I'm a big fan of anything Mazdaspeed (we have a MS Protege and it's a VERY fun, tossable little car).

I'm no help on the name, but it definitely looks like a girl to me.

CONGRATS and welcome to the Mazdaspeed club!

BTW - few things different between 2012 and 13 in pearl white. I want your wheels. My mirrors are white to match the car and my wheels are a silver instead of black.

Did you get the tech package? (Navi/HIDs/Push Start)

:) Thanks guys.

What makes me even happier than the compliments is the fact that you guys are so good to Bex... It really makes me smile to know that she has friends all over the world.

She's so deserving of this - On top of maintaining a 4.0 GPA, she's been teaching and private tutoring at the community college, and the department head has raved about her success with the students. Her Supplemental Instruction workshops / study sessions are filled to capacity, something they've never seen before. She's turning students around and leading them to grades they never could have achieved previously.

On top of all this, she manages a house full of needy lunatics (me and 4 kids between 15 and 21, a cat, a dog and a bird) without strangling us all. She cooks her a$$ off, takes care of the bills, manages our travel plans, handles a lot of the back-end work for NICO, helps me with maintaining the "fleet".... and somehow, she still manages to wake up gorgeous and smiling. So, yeah - this was well-deserved.

I'm the lucky one here. Totally.

Congrats Bex! Love the color choice too!

I've always wanted the buy a Mazda 5 with a blown up motor in it and swap a MS3 drivetrain into it. I think it would make for a badass family hauler if everything would work :naughty:

Thanks everybody!! This car is so awesome. It's everything I wanted and the kids love it too, which is a great bonus.

XenonSE-R wrote:Did you get the tech package? (Navi/HIDs/Push Start)
No. They only had two on the lot (there's only 4 or 5 in the state of Arizona right now) and the one that had the tech package was black-on-black. Black car + 115* summers? Even I don't like the heat THAT much. Plus, the added cost was just silly to me. An extra $2000+ for navi and a back up camera? I have a smartphone and I know how to drive. No thanks.

I'll post up some more pics later if I get a chance. I'm currently trying to get everything together to leave for Carlisle in the morning. :wavey:

We did op for the Convenience Package in our Sorento, but mainly because I wanted fog lights and we both wanted the smartphone integrated stereo with the backup camera. I wasn't paying the extra cash for the other useless crap though.

Who really cares about push button start BTW? I can just see my kid hopping in the car while i'm standing in the kitchen and trying to take off in it. No thanks.
