Gonna share some research.

The Cobb tune for stock intake/exhaust/turbo inlet hose adds a chunk of power and flattens out the power curve a good bit. We're talking leaning out the A/F mixture a bit (the car is tuned pig rich from the factory - you'll notice this when you're cleaning soot off the pipes after 1000 miles). The MS3 is direct injected by way of a High Pressure Fuel Pump that is cam-driven. Cobb highly recommends running the car in "safe-mode" with their 91 octane stage 1 tune because the OEM HPFP cannot maintain the fuel pressure required to increase performance significantly. Cobb also says that a stage 2 tune is basically not possible without an upgraded HPFP.

The two major airflow choke points on the car are the intake/turbo inlet hose and the downpipe (fairly typical I hear on most turbo applications). Apparently Cobb says you introduce moderate risk swapping those parts for aftermarket ones even without the tune if you haven't done a HPFP upgrade.

You can rebuild it yourself with $350 in parts if you have a dust-free room, or you can swap the whole unit for $1000. I don't have access to a place where I could safely rebuild the pump, and that $1000 has kept me away from the $500 accessport, $1100 ark catback, $250 K&N intake, $150 turbo inlet hose, $1000 catted downpipe, and ultimately near 400hp. I'm also more concerned with retaining my warranty as it is my daily.

There are gobs of potential for this car, but the HPFP is the choke point for me. I'm too chicken s***.

There's a local here who's done his... He's sitting at 390 whp right now. I can simply not imagine how redonkulous that car would be with 400hp.

I can't imagine how you would not have insane torque steer with that kind of HP. One of the few cars i've seen with 300+hp to the front wheels that can manage it is the Focus RS500.

Awesome. Wonder what all parts he used for his build.

Hell, it has ridiculous torque steer with just 270 hp. :)

Compared to other FWD vehicles i've driven though, it's pretty tame. I was thoroughly impressed with how well it handles it's power. Heck, my 200hp granny car has more torque steer and it weighs a lot more too.

Dammit. You're making me want one of these things again. My wagon/hatch itch still hasn't gone away and this isn't helping :squint:

NO. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO COVER UP ILLEGAL ACTIVITY WITHOUT MULTIPLE ALIASES!? :chuckle:

I actually use this name everywhere else anyways. I just finally decided to use it here too, since I don't have anything remotely close to a 4DSC anymore.

AUTOTECH HPFP (HIGH PERFORMANCE FUEL PUMP) INTERNALS, COBB ACCESSPORT, AND THEN YOU ARE SAFE TO MOD!!!!!!

MS3 WIN!!!!!!!!!

internals are a lot easier than what has been stated in this thread.... don't listen to the autotech instructions, if you need instructions... let me know.

shouldn't take more than 20 minutes... but first time is always gna take a little longer.

and $1000 for an exhaust is redonkulous. CNT catted downpipe is approx 400, great quality, and 3" piping, and anything for an exhaust is just for sound. take off a resonator and u'll have a nice lil rumble.

There are other exhausts that sound good, but once you open that piping diameter, you are gna have a typical drone made just for racecars :D :bigthumb:

No mods for quite a while, but DAYUM. I still can't get over the fact that people are getting 125 MORE whp out of this thing with less than $2k in mods. That puts this car in Corvette territory.

Hey Nissan - Wake the F up. :poke:

I have no hope for a company that gets pissed at you for getting a speeding ticket in their SPORTS CAR because it shames their company.

The dealership tinted the windows for me (it was the only freebie we could get). I don't think it is huper-optic tint but it's really nice and seems to be working quite well so far. Ask me in August. That will be the real test. The A/C is ice cold. Again, ask me in August if that still rings true.

I DROVE IT YESTERDAY. IT IS SUPERB.

I put hundreds of miles on a rental Mazda 3 5-door hatchback in New England last month and thought, "This car would be perfect if I could row my own gears and had another 75hp or more."

The MS3 is direct the answer to those requests. The base hatchback was already comfy, roomy, efficient (32mpg combined), and quiet (except for some tire noise, easy to remedy). The MS3 is frosty icing on an excellent cake. The clutch is light, the shifter is precise, and I could imagine soaking up thousands of miles with zero fatigue. :yesnod

Bonus: The factory audio is pretty good with an iPod connected and Bluetooth phone calls sound impressively clear. I also like how both the climate and audio displays are up high in driver's line of sight.
