I would like to put a 6 spd in my 95 Maxima SE 5spd when the clutch is due. Does anybody know if this can be done? Any mount worrys? Electrical connections? Alxe and/or spindle changes?

Thank for the information

Coolhand.

Yes it has been done, but mostly by people putting down serious power. I have yet to find any writeups on the actual procedure.

A few things to note: You'll need the 6 speed mounts, axles and shifter (all associated parts). There are also differences in the flywheels as well.

In short, possible but not worth it.

The reason for the swap is that my car revs at 3 grand at 70 mph and at 100 the revs at between 4 and 4 and half grand. The purpose of the 5th gear is to lessen the work of the engine for fuel economy and those revs hamper the cause. This will be my daily driver and fun car so it may be worth it.

you'd be better off using a different 5th gear from a altima, which happens to share the same tranny and most of the parts also.

Would it be worst? The Altima is a 4 cyl and will need stronger first and stronger 5th because of the 4 verses the 6. If someone can direct me to a site or information on the trans gear ratios of the my Maxima 5spd, an Altima 5spd, and 03 6spd and I can draw my own conclusions.

Thanks

If you break 5th gear, mad props to you. You mentioned earlier that you wanted it as a overdrive gear only for gas saving purposes.

Your welcome:http://vibratesoftware.com/htm...s.htm

IIRC the new sentra SE-R 6spd is the same internals as the 3.5 6spds. Just like how the sentra/altima has the same internals as the 3.0 5spds

Thanks for the information. I am cursed with the high revs I guess. Question if you can remember: Did you ever have a 4 gen Max 5 spd with these revs and what was your gas mileage currently? I know you cannot have you cake and eat it too, but I will like to compromise if I can.

Thanks again

Its only high revs if you drive past 75 mph (3000 rpm in 5th gear). Of course it saves you time down shifting since the gearing is so tall

My gas mileage right now is 23.8-25.1 mpg - freeway and bumper to bumper traffic driving. This has been tested over 4 months on the same route everyday over 75 miles a day to and from work

I do have lightweight components to keep the gas mileage up (aluminum pp, aluminum flywheel, UDP, lightweight wheels) and good maintenance.

I have decided to work towards doing the engine and Trans from 03 6psd swap in the future. More power. Anything I should know about before I commit?

You will use a 3.0 ECU (or JWT/Technosquare with highly modified advance timintg, timing case/chain/sprocket. 3.5 Fuel rail to be used will need to be converted to a returnless system. Also, using the 5sp gearbox makes life much easier.

There a lot more stuff to be considered. IMO, it is easier and probably cheaper to simply add a SC to the existing VQ30.
