Had the Murano from new and generally very happy with the car, except for the suspension. Around town found the ride "jiggly" and would bottom out over speed humps etc. At higher speeds, especially with people and luggage in the back, the ride really deteriorated and became mushy as hell, giving a very uncomfortable ride and poor handling. On top of this, front left tyre wear was terrible, chewing through a set of tyres after 32,000 km, despite 3 rotations and keeping tyre pressure up as recommended (40 PSI).

Turns out the suspension is set too soft (not too hard as many on this site have theorised). Here is the fix that has worked for me:

1. Uprated springs all round (up 1mm in thickness) using a stiffer coil2. KYB Excel G Twin Tube gas shocks all round (I tried everywhere I could and found only KYB make suitable aftermarket shocks). (Part numbers 334380, 334381 and 344439)3. Uprated rear roll bar (left original bar on the front)4. Camber pins for front struts (these give the wheel aligner up to 1.75 degrees camber adjustment, where the factory gives NO adjustment). Need around 1 degree negative camber on the left side to compensate for the camber of the road. I am assured this will stop the uneven tyre wear.

All this was done as a custom job by Kmac suspension in Sydney, although I know they will ship as a kit worldwide. Can't recommend them highly enough. http://www.k-mac.com

The ride has been transformed. Murano now rides much smoother at low and high speeds, with people on board or not. Handling has improved out of site and I'm sure the upgraded rear sway bar has a lot to do with it.

This is the second time I have upgraded a sway bar on a car of mine and both times found it is the simplest and cheapest upgrade you can do with the most impact on handling. Both times K-Mac did the sway bar and I got exactly what I was promised by them both times.

Do you mind sharing what all this cost you?

Hi,

I spent A$1,700 all up with fitting in Sydney, done by the manufacturer, but it will depend on local labour costs. Unless you have specialist tools to compress the springs etc, it is not a typical DIY project.

As far as parts go, the KYB shocks retailed A$189 each for front and A$102 each for rear from a major autoparts supplier, but K-Mac got them a little cheaper (about $25 less each). Should be a bit cheaper again from a US supplier on line.

Rear sway bar should be well under US$300 I would think. Springs probably around A$600 for the four. As there doesn't appear to be any "off the shelf" options for springs, you may have to have them custom made like I did. K-Mac in Sydney have my old springs so they certainly can reproduce the springs and rear sway bar to produce whatever you are after. These guys are exhibitors at Sema, so I would imagine they have a few distributors in the US. If not, I know they ship worldwide.

Can you tell me who makes the sway bar and part number?? Although I haven't had the problems you have, I'd love to improve the handling of my MO. Thanks.

Hi Bob. I live in Los Angeles CA. I would love to replicate what you have done to your Murano. I have an '07 S

My e-mail is [email protected]
Please send me the Parts number for the springs and rear roll/sway bar of the equipment you purchased. I read your post and see that the people that did this for you are in Australia.

No point in having a KYB part sent to Australia and then shipped back. I really would appreciate it. Its either fix it or sell it. Tough rough ride for me and my older 67 year old body. I have owned this car for 7 weeks and have hated every moment of driving. I need help or I trade for a Minivan. :frown:

Thanks, Jack
