Suggestion to protect front camera lens

Postby CDNicecube » Tue Jun 28, 2011 5:31 pm

Hi again all

So the recent post about this owner's camera lens cracking after being hit by a small rock got me thinking of ways to protect ours. I think we need to glue or add a small dome shape plastic cap, just slightly bigger than the camera itself so that a small rock might bounce off it and perhaps crack it, but not the lens behind. Some kind of sacrificial cover lens. Any idea what could serve this purpose. Granted, it could blur the image, but I think if it is clean it should not.

Any ideas?

Try some clear film, similar to 3M rock Guard, and cover the lens.

Has anyone found a clear plastic cap that can be glued on top of the lens to protect it? Mine has cracked from an unknown cause. I find it very hard to believe that the stones fly right in the camera (I have no scratches on my brand new EX) and I have no stone chips at all yet and no visible damage near the camera where the lens has shattered.
