subtle EX mods

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Nobody mods an EX… Ha!
I hear or read this every so often. I understand my mods are not too severe, but they all made a difference!

What are some of the mods you have done or would like to do?

my list:
Upgraded my halogens to HID headlights
Replaced that crappy plastic scratched up shift knob with a Leather (M37) shift knob with contrasting stitching
Upgraded incandescent lighting to LED interior lighting with subtle blue foot-well lights
LED license plate and running lights
Since mine didn't come with it, I added a wireless rear view / back-up camera using the mod to play DVD’s through monitor without the parking brake on and while driving
K&N drop in air filters
Aluminum pedals
Carbon fiber wrapped steering wheel
*edited to add Window Tint*

Next?
I would like to upgrade the side mirrors to some with LED turn signals
I would like to wrap the aluminum shift plate with the same carbon fiber if it is easy to separate it from the console.
I would love to add LED daytime running lights to replace the fog lights.

You should tell them that the EX35 is a G37 hatchback... Don't know why we would not mod our EX35. Almost all G37 parts are bolt-on to the EX35...

As for you mods, I would do next:

- the side mirrors to some with LED turn signals

It would definitely look nice!

I would say I am what you can consider a somewhat "boring" car owner. I personally don't care too much about modding my cars, but sometimes the car has a shortcoming, is missing something that I need, or doesn't have a feature that I know that I could regularly benefit from.

When I was younger and had a lot more disposable income, I dipped into car modding just a bit. I didn't really want to touch anything performance related on my first car since it was my daily driver/commuter and I wanted to max out the car's reliability. To get my 'speed' fix, I also owned a rear wheel drive six speed Honda with a 14k RPM redline that actually got over 34 mpg, in stock form ;) . But I did a few of the "ricey" mods on my first car: replaced tape deck head unit with MP3/CD player; amp & sub in the trunk; window tint; blue turn signal lights; and alarm system with window/moon roof controls.

Now that I have kids, I have to be more "responsible" and set an example for them by being an "upstanding citizen" :chuckle:. Oh and they also are part of the reason why I have much less disposable income :gapteeth:. But I did add a few things to my Honda Pilot that it didn't come with: roof rack crossbars; splash guards; moon roof visor; rubber cargo tray; full size spare tire to replace the donut; and an aftermarket DVD & monitor system for the kids.

But this thread is about our EX's, so my short list of mods (if you can call them that) are all weather floor mats, window tint, and a plug-n-play HID kit. The next thing I will probably do is the VSS & parking brake signal bypass mod to give the NAV head unit a bit more functionality. And if I had extra money, I'd probably get a set of winter wheels & tires; or I'd put winter tires on the stock rims and upgrade to a nicer set of wheels for the warm months.

While I don't care too much about appearance mods, I do appreciate if they are done subtly and look classy like the ones you have. The above mods listed in blue that you have done are the ones I like most on your EX. While your shift knob replacement was done for appearance, I wouldn't mind upgrading mine sometime in the future. The shift knob in my EX already looks tired and shows dirt quite easily.

It looks like your EX is tinted. I'm guessing it was already there when you bought the car. And I can see why because of where you're located. Even if you didn't do the mod, I'd say that you should add it to your list :) .

Oh, and by the way; I would LOVE someday to be able to reverse the up/down shift action of the shifter in manual mode. The mod doesn't look too difficult. However, the problem with the mod is finding a way to switch the '+' and '-' in the gear indicator area of the shifter plate, and making it look nice. Doing that looks WAY much harder than the work involved with just reversing the shift action :squint: .

Is this the mod you are talking about?

Thanks!

The mod to allowing the DVDs to play, ETC was much more intimidating than it was hard. I procrastinated it for months, then was very happy when I was done. I love having the camera again. You would love being able to use the Nav like I used to be able to in my RDX and the movie feature is a big plus if you have rug-rats.

The other good things were that other than the morimotos @ $125, nothing else cost me much. The wireless camera was under $30, the carbon fiber was about $20, the steering wheel bezel was $25, pedals were $40ish and the LEDs were $20-30 or so.
- Oh, the leather knob was about $100 and the K&N's were around $95. I sold my OEM knob for around $40 on ebay. :)

Yes. I read that thread a little while back.

But there's pretty much no chance I'll ever do the mod unless I can find a reasonable way to switch the locations of the '+' and '-' on the gear shift base. I'd would absolutely hate to do some kind of hack job on a finishing component such as that one. And even if I tried, I think I pretty much lack the fabrication skills to make it look decent enough to my liking :frown: .

OP:

You can use the front parking light as your Daylight running light by replacing it into a 2watt VLED like this below.

http://www.vleds.com/blue-4-led-2w-high ... -pair.html

This is bright enough! I've been using this for 2 years now. The only problem is , the color is in between 500O to 6000 Kelvin. So my HID headlight is 5000K which is all white and this one is white with hint of blue.... It is still close I guess? Just be very careful not to drop that wedge bulb inside the housing.... ;)

Image

High beam center, parking light (wedge bulb) on top... (picture below) See how bright it is! :chuckle:

Some angles light colors match, but some angles there is that tiny hint of blue...

BTW, HID is DDMTUNING 35W, it is very reliable as long as you hook it up straight to the OEM wire harness. It is very safe without relay harness. I had a relay harness before and it sucked!
BULB IS DDMTUNING 5000K.

the vled "DRLs" looks good! I have been using a led wedge bulb that has 16 or 19 chips, but I think yours are still much brighter. May need to look into those. Mine are surely not bright enough for DRLs!

Thanks!

The vled link I originally posted is blue. That is not the one I have.

This is the one that I have installed in my EX35. It says white but there is a tiny hint of blue...
