So today I was heading home around 2:30pm after taking my Volvo to a specialist to get it looked at. I was going approximately 30 in a 35, and came to an intersection in Salisbury. There was a big F series truck to my left and I was in the right lane. The light was clearly green for me, and was clearly red for the other ways of travel. A middle aged lady in a Jeep Cherokee decided to (or wasn't paying attention) and ran through the red light going ~50mph. The truck to my left was able to swerve out of the way, but I in my car, was unable to, and she hit me (the police repeatedly said it that way). She was cited for something or other, I can't remember.

I had several witnesses for me that said I was doing absolutely nothing wrong (which I wasn't), and she had blatantly ran the red. After the collision, my passenger airbag deployed, but the driver side did not. I was wearing my seat belt, she was not. My front end was completely destroyed, and the engine and transmission actually moved out of place as well. My car contacted hers in the rear quarter panel area, nearly flipping the Jeep. All four of her tires were removed from the wheels, and she hit a pole.

The Police/EMS/Fire were thankfully quick to respond. I was checked out Ok. Not sure about the lady, I was too aggravated, shocked, and upset to say one word to her. I left it at that and let the police gather our information.Right now I feel fine, but I don't know about in the morning. The car on the other hand is not so OK.

I contacted my insurance, and they set things in motion. I received a rental vehicle, and lo and behold, the mighty Prius! (at least it's red)

I actually don't mind it as much as I thought I would, but it is still blah. I may update this thread with my complete thoughts on it later.

Oh, and this is my first accident. Not really that important, but thought I would throw that out there. And sorry for the crappy cell pics, I don't have a working camera right now.

I actually did feel rather safe, the seat kept me in place and the seatbelt did it's job.

After the accident all I could think was "F***" and I got some pics of my car, and I haven't been thinking straight all day. But I had my wife, mother, grandparents and dad all calling me back to back, after I just let my wife know. Sorry though.

Dude its a Volvo, that will buff right out. My mom's 850 shrugged off a Ford explorer, which is about the same as a Jeep.

Sorry to hear about your accident, I know how you feel. I almost had my front end taken off last weekend by someone who blasted through an intersection on red. f*** those people man. Hope you get your vehicle situation sorted out in a timely manner.

This is off topic, but I was born in Salisbury and lived there until I was 5. I used to live in a house by the lake. I do remember the citco station. I haven't been there since 1994/1995. I'm certain things have changed since then.

I have a friend that regularly blows through red lights.

He says he just misses seeing them sometimes. I keep telling him he needs to sell the Pathfinder and take the bus so no one gets hurt, including him, but this never seems to sink in and I have told everyone I know so they don't ride with the douche anywhere.

Some people are just not ready for modern times!

Glad you were in a Volvo! It took DAMN good care of you.

Going to get another? I say at least get a T5 this time

Hope you feel okay in the next few days, I didn't feel anything until the next day when my first S13 got totaled (stupid b**** ran a stop sign). Good luck with the insurance company.

aww, it'll buff out. Looks like a hard hit, but it's great news to have walked away from it.

I think he was looking for a different type of "proof" as in:

Thanks for all the kind words guys! I woke up this morning and so far only have a slightly stiff neck, and a stiff shoulder. All in all not too bad.
mcheddadi wrote:never had a volvo, but your airbad not deploying is kinda worrisome....
I am actually kind of glad that the driver side did not deploy in a weird way. On one side I wish it had deployed, and the other, my glasses are still in one piece.

The insurance lady I talked to says that the lady who hit me, her insurance company is going to be hit with everything they can get her for. (my deductable, any fees, etc.) So I should come out of this fine.

From how I feel today, I have a feeling that there will be plenty of sneaking pains.

Your friend needs drawn and quartered.
xX RB Xx wrote:I'm certain things have changed since then.
You'd be surprised! I have heard from my neighbors (who have lived here for years) that things aren't much different now.

It did take damn good care of me, and I am thankful for that. However, I am leaning towards getting back in a Nissan, or Infiniti

Volvo's have a real bumper support. Look at that thing!

Sorry about your car. Glad youre alright. Looks like the impact was on the passenger side. Maybe thats why the driver baf didnt deploy.
