How much are you looking to spend? And did you mean junked? I don't know any places that sell junked cars.

LOL yeah I meant junked. My wife lol says I have $20,000 to spend. I have a couple of Japanese guys searching junk yards and such but everytime they find one someone beats them to the perchase. I was just hoping I could get some more folks in the search. I have seen some running but very poor condition GTR's in the high teens and low twenties before but Im not a memeber of the auction sites not to mention that I find some of them having the appearance of being shady. If you have any ideas let me know.

Well, I am not sure how hard it would be to register a junked car. If your wife will allow you $20k, I'd keep an eye open on Yahoo! Japan auctions.

You don't have to have an account to look but you can maybe find something and if you know some people up there, you might be able to get them to buy for you.

Here's a link.

Just bookmark that and check back now and again to get the newest auctions.

How much does a R34 normally run people? Around here I'm seeing R32 and R33 skylines for 5 - 12 k CND. Im curious of what the expected price of importing a R34 is going to be in 2014.

Depending on the year, model and condition of any R34 GT-R, you can expect to pay about $20k on the low side to anywhere near $60k on the high side.

It was expensive. it was heavily modifed though, and I didnt have to jump through as many hoops since it had already been imported. but there is a long story behind it all

Even heavily modified, it's still crazy expensive.

Over here, most heavily modified cars won't sell for near that much, especially if it's not a 34-R.
And it being 6 years ago, in todays money, with the yen rate, that would be close to $45k or so, I'd guess.

Right now on Yahoo auctions, an ER34 with a swapped RB26DETT is around $9k the moment for a buy it now price.

Wow...I knew the market value for Skylines in the U.S. was expensive, but had no idea it was that expensive.

Your not in the states right? Or Canada? I was thinking about trying to pick one up cheap and leave it in storage in Japan until 2014

Better be sure you know that storage fees are going to be expensive for 3 years. Plus, if you don't de-register the car, you'll still need to pay yearly road tax, compulsory insurance, and at least one sha-ken inspection. Figure at least $1k a year minimum for storage, tax at about $500 a year for a GT-R, insurance will be another $500 a year or so, and the ska-ken inspection will be $1200 minimum.

Plus finding someone (if a car storage facility doesn't offer this service) to make sure your fluids are in good shape and start the car once in a while for you.

Now, if you de-register the car, then it may not be so expensive, because you'll most likely not have to pay the other stuff. Only would have to worry about the storage fees. BUT...I am not sure what the rules are for a de-registered car in Japan.

Gold digger I dont want this to be taken the wrong way SO BY NO MEANS AM I HAPPY ABOUT THE SITUATION IN JAPAN I LIVE HERE TO SO WHAT IS BAD FOR THEM IS BAD FOR ME. But as a question what do you think the resent events here will have on the Yen rate and do you think that a water damaged GTR is worth it to purchase and rebuild?

To be honest, man. I can't say. I, myself, would never buy a water damaged car. Just a lot of nastiness that is waiting to happen, especially if it were submerged in salt water. Who knows what the metal in the interior would be doing.

As far as the yen rate...hard to say, really. When the quake/tsunami hit, the yen tanked to 76/dollar then closed at 78. Got back up to the 81 mark then went south again.

I have a feeling that the yen is going to start losing ground against the dollar and it's going to stay that way for quite a while.

Yet rate will be stronger then the dollar or weaker...stronger meaning, yen gets closer to one for one? (I realize this sounds backwards but according to econimst Japans yen needs to "weaken" in order for Japan economy to get stronger.) I'm no economics major. so explain what you mean. LMAO.

Thanks for the reminder on salt water and metal...Guess thats why they pay you the big bucks. Hey by the way how is it down there? folks getting frantic or are they staying pretty calm? Stay safe man.

If whatever price is on the table is a price you would be willing to pay for a stripped absolutely bare shell, and I mean nothing that is glued, clipped or bolted to it left on the car anymore, don't. Dunked cars are a nightmare. I have a friend, though, that built a 400+hp RB25+1 out of a block and head that came out of a car that took a dip in the ocean. The donor car drifted right off the dock.

Just an update I got a 1989 GTR R32 finally. I am still looking for a GTR R34 wrecked, damaged, high mileage doesn't matter to me. So if you have any new Ideas or you know where I can get one that is not more then $20,000 let me know. I know it sounds hard and believe me it is, but I have seen them for this price its just not often. Let me know If you know people or you know where I can find a jem like that.
