Steering wheel vibration at 70mph

Postby G35x08 » Tue Feb 07, 2012 10:10 pm

So I bought a used 2008 G35x with 45,000 miles this past saturday and the everyday street driving is fine. However, when getting it up to 70mph on the highway, the steering wheel/car gets a bad vibration. I checked the wheel weights and there doesn't appear to be any missing, as in there is no noticeable clean spot where a weight may have fallen off. The lugs are torqued to 82 ft lbs; and the tires are Capital Sport UHP and V rated.

Going to the dealership tomorrow and hoping the wheels need rebalancing. I'm assuming the tire place can determine if its a bent wheel?

Already researched the Forum, and seems most vibration issues are with bad wheel balancing or tie rods but on higher mileage cars.

If not a wheel problem, are there typically other issues at 45k miles (i.e., tie rods, bearings, struts, etc)?

With a used car, it could be anything. However, I'd bet on an imbalanced wheel. 45k isn't what I'd consider high mileage...you should be good to go mechanically.
