I read the stickies up there. I couldn't find anything. Sorry if this is a repost I may have missed somewhere. However, could anyone tell me what/where I need to look for a speedometer/tach for my rb25det? I was thinking any V6 nissan tach and speedometer might work, but that very well may just be ignorant of me.And information will help. Thanks in advance.

Check out LSauto.com. They sell 180mph speedos designed to work with the RB25 VSS and they also sell a stock looking tach designed to read 6cyl engines. They now require that you turn in your cores though. Alternatively, you could just buy the speedo and use a tach from an R32 RB20 gtst. That's what I did and I actually just finished putting the cluster back in the car last night. You will have to do some minor trimming on the tach but it fits well and looks goodIf I could do it all over again, I would just send the whole cluster to LSAuto and make them sort it out.

I know that Darius has also tried a Dakota Digital converter box to modify the VSS signal and tach signal so the stock gauges will work properly but his car (like mine) is in pieces and I don't think he's actually tested them out yet.

Here's a couple of quick pics:

This combo *should* work but I haven't tested it out yet.

I had the dakota digital tach signal modifier ($80) installed while the car was running briefly. It is now in pieces again and going to be sent to the machine shop soon. For the time that it ran, the rpms appeared to be right on. The install was as simple as it can possibly get and setting the thing was just as easy. I have yet to do the speed signal modifier.

I am wondering about this myself. I have the complete R33 GTS-T cluster (came in half-cut :grin ) and my 240 came with the 'Digital Dash' My HUD is fully functioning and I am debating on wether or not to go JDM or keep USDM. I remember seeing a tach sensor on Ebay for like $20 that was similar to the Dakota Digital unit, but I have used DD equipment before and it is top-notch.

Darius, what are your thoughts on the DD piece?

Like you said, top notch. The thing came with great instructions for each possible application, not just your particular one. So, if you didn't want it anymore or wanted a JDM tach, you could sell it to anyone.

I bought a cluster off a guy parting out his setup with the LS auto tach and speedo. They work pretty well, think it might be a tad off on the top end cause it sure feels like Im going faster than what its saying. My cluster doesnt light up at night lol but thats probably my fault.

On an unrelated note, is that your SVX in your sig? I daily drive a 96 Bordeaux Pearl LSi =)

I have the stock tach and cluster and speedometor.... They both work accurately...

I just adjusted the variable resistor for the tachometer and it reads within the 100 of the actuall rpm.

The speed sensor is a 300zx z32 5 speed sensor.

i sent in my S14 cluster to LS auto. took them a couple weeks, but they re-calibrated the tach. the guy i talked to said i didnt need to mess with the speedo, and that they dont re-calibrate the S14 speedo's. i dunno. if there is an issue when it finally fires up, there is a place local to me that i just found that can recal the speedo.

Well, I bought a whole R32 GTS-T cluster more than a year ago with the intention of swapping in the whole cluster and getting everything to work. This was before I found out that the R32 speedo is gear driven and would not work with the RB25 transmission VSS. Yeah, I was pretty bummed...Anyway, I couldn't justify spending more $$$ on the LSAuto tach when I already have a tach that will work (the R32 one). I'm just now getting around to swapping it in because all the engine work on my car is on hold as I sit with my thumb up my *** waiting for my Poncams to get here.

AH, thanks. Yeah I'm gonna go with LS auto. Seems to be my best bet. Just have to pick up a DOCH gauge cluster somewhere. *crosses fingers that the one in the junk yard is a twin cam*Thanks guys!

No, no, no... The speed sensor from a 300zx will work with the RB25 transmission. The part numbers are very similar but reguardless of which one you use, on the s13 the speedo will still be off by about 1/2 (from my experience).

NO. You need to use the 300zx or RB25 speed sensor. If you use this without adjusting the speedo AT the back of the cluster, it will read about 30mph when you're doing 60mph. You need to actually adjust the speedometer to get it to read properly. Do not use the KA sensor as it will not fit into the RB25 transmission.

kouki-

on that note, could you help with instructions on how to adjust the speedo? is there anything in the Haynes (or other brand) serivce manual? Any help would be great.
