Speakers (6x9's)

Is it possible to swap out the factory door speakers for aftermarket 6x9's?

If so, what steps are necessary to do so. I got a set of Soundstream SST6.9's for freezies, and I figured I would try and install them. Especially since we tried to mount them in a friend of mines s14.5 with no luck, so I figure it'd be quite difficult to sell them to the right person. I was trying to dig up miamiheat's tut on speaker upgrades (PS you still have those lowering springs? haven't forgot about ya), and seeing what it all looked like. Trying to figure out if I need to do an amp upgrade as well.

6X9 will not fit unless you do your own retrofit, either make the hole 6.5 a 6X9 shape or find a 6X9 wood mount to mount on the metal and then you can mount your 6X9 on the wood then you might or might not need to cut the door panel.
I say go on craigslist and list them as trade, trade with somebody for a set of 6.5 speakers or try to find a set of of wood mounts like these here.
