Hello all,
I've been reading about as much as I can concerning wheels and tires for the M35/45. I'm pretty sure i've settled on a new set, but wanted some feedback from you guys.
The car is an 07 M45 and was purchased used with some aftermarket wheels already on there which are not really my taste, but i've tolerated them until now. They are Gianelle 5-shot 20x8.5. That's about all I know about them, can't seem to find the offset anywhere. Anyhow, the new ones i've decided on are Concept One RS-55. I hope to use 20x8.5 et30 with 245/35 for the front and 20x10 et38 with 275/30 for the rear. I think the front is ok, the rear i'm not 100% on though. My suspension setup is stock right now, not sure if i'll change that down the road or not. I was reading a post by "06M4.5" who has a very similar setup, but he had his rears milled to +42 i think because he wanted larger tires. Hopefully he will chime in with some input for me as well. Thanks in advance for your replies.

If anyone has this size wheel and offset in the rear, please let me know about clearance or any other issues. Pictures are always helpful. Thanks!

I have a 2008 M45x and recently purchased 20" Vossen VVS-085 wheels and Michelin PS2 tires in a staggered configuration.
I have been driving a while now on them, at speeds over 80 for long periods, in 70 degree weather with no "warning lights" going on, no rubbing and handling issues. I have stock suspension with no plans to deviate, why create problems?

Here is my setup compared to stock:

Stock Wheels 18 x 8 (ALL)
Stock Tires 245/45/R18

Sidewall: 4.3"
Radius 13.3"
Diameter 26.7"
Circumference: 83.8"
Revs/Mile 756

Vossen VVS085 20 x 9 os +38 FRONT
Michelin PS2 245/35/ZR20

Sidewall: 3.4"
Radius 13.4"
Diameter 26.8"
Circumference: 84"
Revs/Mile 754

Vossen VVS085 20 x 10.5 os +45 REAR
Michelin PS2 285/30/ZR20

Sidewall: 3.4"
Radius 13.4"
Diameter 26.7"
Circumference: 84"
Revs/Mile 754

By these calculations the speedometer reading is slow by .2% meaning the speedometer is reading 60 mph while the car is actually traveling 60.1 mph. In terms of Revs/mile is 99.75% accurate as compared to the stock specs.

Try to balance the numbers better. Go with the 285/30/20 instead on your rear.

The 275/30/20 yields a mismatch as follows:
Sidewall: 3.2"
Radius 13.2"
Diameter 26.5"
Circumference: 83.2"
Revs/Mile 761

Instead of being matched;
In your setup, the FRONT would cause the speedometer reading slow by .3% meaning the speedometer is reading 60 mph while the car is actually traveling 60.2 mph;
while the REAR would cause the speedometer reading fast by .7% meaning the speedometer is reading 60 mph while the car is actually traveling 59.6 mph.

Thanks for the reply. Yea I realized the mismatch but wasn't sure about it. I would prefer the 285/30 tire for the rear, but I wasn't sure if it would work as well with my wheel choice since it is a 10" width rather than 10.5". Also the offset is +38 instead of the +45.

Thanks, I like the VVS-085's a little better, but I like saving $800 even more :)

Concept One RS-55 20x10 et38 with a 275/30 tire fits really good but the matching front tire would be 235/35.

If you want to go with the wider tire 285/30 and don't want the tire to stick out then you should get the rear wheels milled to 42mm or 43mm. Front matching tire would be 245/35.

As for the rear Vossen 20x10.5 et45 it will stick out of the rear fender.

hope this helps, Freddie

Good info, thanks Freddie. Also thanks for your reply by email. I really appreciate it.

I may look into getting the rears milled then. 235/35 seems to be a rare tire. I would rather have the 245/35 in the front an 285/30 in the rear. So it seems that milling the rears to +42 would be my only choice to use this tire in the rear.

235/35 is not rare at all it's just that the M cars are over 4,000lbs and its best to get as mucher rubber as you can. Even more so if you live in Pot-hole city like I do.

and yes milling the rear to 42et or 43et will keep the 285/30 from poking out of the lip.

Update: After calling around to various wheel shops and machine shops here in Albuquerque, I've realized that this is not the place to get technical with offsets. Nobody seemed to understand what I wanted to do when I started talking about milling the rear wheels from 38et to 42et. Some of the wheel shops even suggested they could offer me spacers! :wtf2: That doesn't even make sense. Anyhow, I ended up calling F1 Motoring in New Jersey since I knew they would understand. JC over there was really helpful, and he actually has a contact directly at Concept One that will shave the wheels to whatever offset I specify. How easy is that?
I call, tell them what offset I want, pay them, they do it and then ship it out. Sweet!

Will post pictures once it's all set up and done.

preluda, looks good. Hard to beat OEM, but I really wanted a staggered setup and since I don't have an x model I was able to do it.

Thought I would share a few photos with the current wheels, which will hopefully be going away soon. If these are your style, let me know, they should be for sale soon assuming all is well with the new wheels.

About 8:30pm. It was completely dark out. It's a 20 second exposure and then I lit the car a little with a flashlight while the shutter was still open.

A few of the others from the same night...

car looks great, your widths are the same as my new ones, so i'm glad to see that it shouldn't be a problem. are the black headlights what comes with the sport model? I wish I had a sport.

freddie:
thanks man! i'd consider myself an amateur still when it comes to photography, but it's a lot of fun playing with different settings for different results.

Thanks. Sorry, I couldn't tell you on the film. It was already done when I got the car. I think I'm going to redo it though with 3M film at some point.
