Solar charging through lighter socket - Can it be done?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I plugged in my solar charger one sunny day to see if I could use this to help supplement the battery. I used both the lighter socket and the accessory socket with the following results. The screen display and bluetooth came on right away. None of the screen controls worked - not surprised. I turned on the accessory mode and shut off the screen display and tried again. This time just the clock display was on the screen and the bluetooth also reactivated. Can anyone tell me if I can actually charge the battery with this setup. Should I run my own wires a more direct route to the battery system and can you advise the best points to slice into.My old pathfinder loved this little trickle charge!Anyone try this before? Thanks in advance - dmax

Not sure I have ever heard of charging the battery from the accessory outlet. But you need to make sure that the outlet receives power when the vehicle is off.
