sohc timing chain rattle

my chain start to rattle last week. i search and only see the dohc write up about removing the upper chain guide. does it goes the same for a sohc?

nope, it's a different setup on a single cam, your best bet is to go get a timing kit( tensioner, chain, guides and sprocket), because if you're hearing a rattle the chain might already be rubbing on the timing cover and if that's the case then it's just a matter of time before it rubs through and coolant gets into the oil. I would also check the oil pressure because a failing oil pump can keep the tensioner from putting enough pressure on the timing chain in turn causing a rattle.

TRUE!!! I just pulled my SOHC timing cover off and found out why I had a gallon of CLEAR water come out of my oil pan.

honestly put a timing kit on and new oil pump, it's not terribly expensive if you can do the work yourself and you'd get the peace of mind, and spending less money now instead of more later
