The only reason I made this thing is because the stock bed was dangerously rusted, not so I could put my truck to work; and one of the main points I had was not to have large overhangs. It is narrower than the cab, on purpose, even the 235 tires protrude a little bit out, but that is how it had to be.

Is that what those are called? I was wondering that myself as they were on the truck when I bought it back in 2007. I plan on keeping the truck for a while because I still feel that it owes me something. I will keep your offer in mind, though, Rev.

Thanks, StephenG! I think the drop-in bedliner might have had something to do with how rusted the stock bed had gotten.

Not planning on selling them, but I will keep you in mind for sure. Those rims are like 75 dollars each new, and mine are weathered and in need of attention to ever bring them back. The tires have helped protect them from curbs, though lol, one thing that is good about them, for now anyways.

I kind of lucked out on mine, no rust underneath so far. In a couple months I'm going to pull mine out, bed liner the inside and put a retractable tonneau on it.

Makes tossing things on easy, NO sides to ding up and make you lift crap high. Just get some tie downs so it all stays on the bed LOL OH looks cool.

If you run a 2x4 around the outside edge, you could add some brackets, make some short racks and have a stake bed.

That is a good idea if I would want to do alot of work with the truck. I want to do some work with it, but I'm not trying to go that heavy duty at this time.

That's neat.
My original bed was rusty as well.
The bedliner kept it together.
Rust free or close to rust free beds are out there.

Get some eye bolts from home depot and put in the corners and you have great tie down anchor points. Can be removed or put back on with a wrench in a few minutes. or you can do like I did in my old one when i had a bike. They got low profile bolt in plates that have quick release D rings for tying down stuff but pop off in seconds. They were like 15 bucks a pair.

I did get some eye bolts--four of them screwed down into the 4x4's. They are rated at 300lbs each, with wood threads, not with a nut on the other end. I think they should be good for what I need them for, I can rock the truck back and forth by grabbing them. They are also good looking for 89 cents each.

I took a picture earlier today, but I didn't like the angle, so I will take another later. I also want to get the plexiglass in the back window before I take the back-end shot because it is such a big part of the picture.

Updated pics with 1x1 rails. Notice the stock tail-lights, switched to opposite sides and mounted horizontally with small L-brackets.

Have you ever thought of using the composite stuff like they do on decks, a little more expensive but totally water proof. Would last a long time and be tougher than wood. A composite flat bed would be cool and you can get it in colors....hmmmmmmmmmmmm

I did consider that while I was doing the initial shopping, and it would work. I am on a budget, though, so the price of treated lumber was enough to sway me.
