2003 infiniti G35 4D sedan, 130K miles on original spark plugs, all stock no mods.

Ok, long story short, my trusted mechanic replaced spark plugs for me last eve. I had warned him that we might find oil in the #5 and # 6 spark plug well but to my surprise the first 5 looks excellent...no trace of oil...the # 6 i.e. closest to the driver had a tad of oil spill. The ignition coil and the plug also had a bit of oil. The mechanic cleaned it and said that I may not necessarily have to swap out for a new valve cover considering how expensive it is.

I will keep an eye on oil consumption and if I have to keep adding 1 qt in between oil changes I may get the drivers side valve cover and have it replaced.

In the meantime, here are a couple of pics. The spark plaus are lined up #1 to #6 left to right and the other pic reflects the #6 spark plug well. Let me know what you guys think...would you replace valve cover right away?

Also, has infiniti changed the design on the valve covers? if not then what is the point of replacing them if they will leak oil anyways?

I can't imagine that they would have changed the design on a valve cover for a 2003. But is it possible that you may simply need to change out the gasket and not necessarily the cover itself? That's a relatively easy and inexpensive job. In any event, you can get a new cover at Rock Auto for around $189, and the gaskets usually don't run more than $10 or so. I know nothing about the quality of Beck/Arnley replacement parts for Infiniti -- perhaps another member will chime in on that -- but it's a starting place for you.

Best of luck!

They look very similar to yours. No oil issues.
All on regular 87 octane
