Hi
We have a 4 year old 2008 Rogue with 75K miles on it. We absolutely LOVE this car and with the right tires (we have Hankook Optimo H727's....which we love), I believe that your Rogue will do whatever you want of it in conditions ranging from sunny summer days to wet, windy and moderately snowy winter days.

After 4 years of reading posts in the Forum it amazes me of the gullibility and lack of knowledge that many new car owners have. The most important thing that the dealer gave you is the Service and Maintenance Guide. This is your Bible. Use it well.

First, determine which type of driving that you do and choose either schedule 1 or 2. If you follow the maintenance schedule for your type of driving you will be fully covered for your warranty. The Premium Schedule is overkill and a Nissan way for the dealer to rack up the profits.

Second, find a dealer that you trust and have your service always done there while under warranty. I drive an extra 25 miles to a dealer in the next town that treats me with respect and they don't try to ram unneeded services down our throats. Our dealer charges us around $30 for an oil change and at every oil change they do all of the inspections required under warranty. In 75K miles it has been suggested that we change our coolant and serpentene belt (both of which were deemed reasonable by our worthy moderators) and air filters when dirty.

That's it...find a dealer you trust and trust their recommendations and you will get many trouble free miles for very little money

I hope this helps

1.) $30 isnt bad at all! plus you get them to snoop around for potential problems, and its a nissan dealer (and not some sleezy grease ball.) Lucky you!

2.) i agree at 75k its best to change the belts to be safe and not stranded.(i think you got your life out of them anyway and they repaid you in their service.) and the coolant is at a good time to change as well. 75k isnt a ton of miles for a small engine, but you dont want rust or grit building up, nor any form of limescale. that will begin to clog the channels in your radiator and decrease its cooling ability. and it can also clog your heater core, thus not heating the inside cabin efficiently enough. plus the fluid can build up further rust and break down its lubricating properties for the water pump(which can lead to this)

You are so lucky. Oil and oil filter change for 30 $!!!! Including an overall check!!!! It is unbelievable.

After I bought the car, I was taking the car for oil change every three months. Because that "Bible" Service and Maintenance Guide says "Change oil/oil filter every 6000 kms or 3 months, whichever comes first. I am making 2500 - 3000 km in three months.

Now I am fed up with all the problems with Rogue and I really don't care too much. I am now taking the car to oil change every 6000 km, regardless of mileage.

Here is the price of oil and filter change at my local Nissan dealer (oil is NOT synthetic): 56.50 $

Price breakdown:

-5 liters of oil (2.69 $/lt): 13.45$ (NORMALLY IT SHOULD BE 4.6 Liters. They are either adding too much oil or they add 4.6lt, but charging for 5 lt.)
-Oil filter: 10.99$
-Oil plug (crush washer): 0.98$
-Environmental disposal fee: 5.00$
-Tax: 6.50$

Total: 56.50$ + no inspections + the uncomfortable feeling of knowing that a brainless grease monkey is doing something on your car.

Here comes the price for "Maintenance 2" (every 12 months or 24.000 kms)

-Inspection of:
a. Air Filter
b. Battery Fluid Level
c. Brake linings, drums, pads, discs
d. CVT transmission fluid levels
e. Condition of the exhaust systems and mountings
f. coolant fluid level and radiator hoses
g. Dust covers and drive shaft bolts
h. Fluid levels, condition of brake lines, cables and hoses
i. Horn, wipes and exterior lights
j. Lubricate locks, hinges and latches (I never allow them to do this, because the spray lithium everywhere, including the rubber weatherstripping and paint)
k. Steering components
l. Top up windshield washer fluid
m. Cooling fluid density
n. spark plug condition (our spark plugs have a lifetime of thousands of miles)
o. Fuel lines, tank vapor vent, system hoses
(basically these inspections are looking underneath the car with a lamp for 10 seconds. That is it. I watched them behind the glass!)
-Adjust drive belts and inspect conditions (the drive belt has a self adjuster)
-Replace engine oil and filter (as I give the price above it should be "normally" 56.50$)

TOTAL: 161.95$

So yes you are lucky.

By the way, If you want to follow Service and Maintenance guide as your "Bible" you need a lot of money. Of course following what it says is ideal in a perfect world but I personally only afford it for one year. For example, on the Service and Maintenance manual it says "Brake Maintenance every 6 months or 12.000 km). In a year I make only 15.000 km, so I have to take the car to the dealer every 6 months (twice a year). The cost of Brake Maintenance for four wheels is $180.

What I believe is a responsible rogue owner should use the Service and Maintenance Manual as a GUIDE, and use his/her common sense and logic to change or replace parts, fluids. Of course this forum has a lot of good topics and knowledgeable (and extremely helpful) moderators.

i couldnt have said it better myself. your 100% CORRECT.
its not a bible, its a simple cheat sheet for people to use and only in an ideal world, but not something that HAS to be done 'by the book'.

I live near the Canadian (BC) border so I am aware how much more things cost up there so $56 instead of low $30's sounds about right
