I have a Nissan Sentra 2006 1.8 SE. I got error code P0455. I chaned gas cap twice, smoke test at the firestone - they did not find any problems. I still have the same code. What can I do next? Thank you.

Was the replacement cap stock? If the cap seals then your looking at a hose leak or an issue with another componant in your evap system. It could be your charcoal cannister the purge valve or any of the hoseing/pipeing. I would take it to a dealer as it would be covered under the emissions warranty

Thank you. It is the Nissan cap, I also did smoke test at firestone - they told me - problem with cap. They did not find any problems. What do you mean about emmission waranty. I have 65000 miles on my car, and warranty expired.

Emissions warranty is 8yr/80k, so you ought to be able to have them look at it.

That said, it could be a bad ECU or an intermittent purge valve sticking issue.

Sounds like your Vent Control Valve is sticking open. Its common. Pull the hose off that goes from the vent control valve (on the evap canister) and see if there is dirt in the valve. If so, its bad.

Oh and 8/80 only covers the ECM and the catalytic converters, not gas caps, evap lines or any of that stuff.

Hope that helps.

I was trying to find the problem, but mechanic gave up. He found that there are two pluses on valve. They afraid that something happened during the accident I had 2 years ago on this car. Is ti possible that EMC send wrong signal to the valve?

Possible, sure, anything is. It's unlikely, though. Did you take it to Nissan or was it another mechanic? If it's ECM related you're still covered, as we said awhile back, so they ought to be able to run a diagnostic on it without charging you out the wazoo.

An accident-induced problem from an accident 2 years ago would most likely have cropped up long before this.

Again, you ought to be able to get a free (or close to free) diagnostic on the ECU directly from Nissan if you push the emissions warranty issue.

Right, you had it at another mechanic. I'm saying you should take it to a dealer now instead and tell them to check your ECU to make sure it's functioning properly because you have a seemingly cause-less emissions code.

If this was the result of the accident, it should have happened a lot sooner than 2 years later. I don't really buy that theory.

I scheduled an appointment at dealer shop, but on the way to this place light dissapered and milage became better. Dealer told me they need light on to test. Two day later light returned. The only thing guys did before they took out hoses abd blew canister and valve with air. Do you have any idea what all this can be?

Then they didn't do anything to fix it. The purge valve is likely sticking, so it needs to be greased or replaced.
