On March 19, 2012, Gar Loon Lee, was sentenced in U.S. District Court, Burlington, Vermont, to thirty months probation, payment of a $25,000 fine, and payment of taxes and penalties in the amount of $13,879 for failing to report the receipt of significant taxable gross income from the illegal importation of four passenger vehicles from Canada to Vermont in 2009.

Vehicles imported into the U.S. must comply with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) prior to being offered for sale and must be imported by or through a Registered Importer that is recognized by NHTSA. Mr. Lee, who was neither a Registered Importer nor worked through a Registered Importer, purchased four Nissan automobiles in Canada and illegally entered Vermont at various ports of entry during 2009 using borrowed New York dealer plates. Mr. Lee failed to declare the vehicles as imports and did not complete the required importation documents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. None of the four vehicles complied with the FMVSS or emissions standards imposed by EPA regulations.

This investigation was conducted jointly with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Burlington, Vermont.

I blame the 1% here. 1% of people who actually do illegally import Cars are douche bags 100% of the time. except for Raymond in Rainman.

If the weight of the posts are any indication, I think the 1% are people who seek to import legally. The 99% think they are smarter than the Feds and willing to gamble quite a bit to prove it. It's only the unavoidable up front money to get a car in a foreign country located, bought and stuck in a container that keeps the numbers of cars getting seized and people being led away in cuffs low. If they could afford the "buy in" the 99% would willingly roll the dice. Cmon, daddy want's a GT-R!

Id settle for a mean rwd sedan, we got the short end of the stick cause of the Feds regardless. They're probably most pissed off about the $13k tax monies.

Correction: I was informed that Pride Performance is and has not been associated with LM24 for several years. Originally Pride worked out of LM24. Another email from the person named in the incident said that he did not have to snitch on anyone, and was a little concerned by this post. And, the picture of the GT-R's in New York, the photographer told me that I was not allowed to use it, and to cease and desist using it. Ok no problem.

I have a lot of movement, calls, emails, reply's to posts over this. Some people can't handle the truth about people getting popped over illegally imported cars.
