In this article we will be making a new coil wiring harness to replace a burned up or otherwise damaged coil sub-harness for an SR20DET.

Skill Level: 3 of 5

Time Required: ~3 Hours

Tools: Soldering gun14 gauge wireNeedle nose pliersElectrical tape(3M preferred)Heat Shrink TubingOriginal harnessFlat head screwdriver

First thing I did was cut open the original harness to route and cut new wires to the same length.

Now as for the plugs, if yours are broken or missing you can use the same ones out of many other nissans as long as the have the yellow tab inside.Or purchase new ones from a Nissan Dealer.

*The first wire is a ground *The second one is the main power wire that supplies constant power to the coil pack. *The last wire carries the coil pack its signal, so it is individually connected to the main plug.

Now that you know where everything should go and know how it works, you need to take apart your chosen connectors, the yellow insert comes out fairly easy by inserting a small flat head screw driver in the red area.

Once out there are three clips that need to be "unlocked" to release the old wires.

You should now have the wire out and you will need to save the metal clip. To open the Wire spread open the clip here.

Once apart the rubber "boot" can slide out and the wire may be removed and thrown away. the area where the wire was will be where the new Wire will be soldered.

Now choose what color you want to identify what and cut wire to length. I chose black for all grounds and Red for the Main power and black for the signal wire.

Note:Do not mix them up or you will have problems later on so mark everything!

Slide the boot over the wire and you should be ready to clip them into the connector now.

They should make a "click" noise when it is in the connector securely, and after the "click" turn it over and install the locking yellow clip, and reinstall the green silicone ring that goes inside the connector.

Repeat until you have all four finished keeping in mind to measure and compare the length to the original harness.

Now measure and cut the wire loom that will be installed in the harness.

Be sure to add a small piece of shrink tubing the ends to keep debris out in. Use a heat gun or a small lighter torch to shrink the tubing.

Now solder the common ground and power supply wires together.

Note: A small piece of cable tie keeps them all in place while you solder.

Once this is complete re assemble the connectors.

Note:Be sure to follow the above diagram.

Once you have assembled the harness, before connecting the plugs it is a good idea to check continuity in the newly created circuit.

Note: A reading as close to 0.00 Ohms is ideal.

I hope this helps anyone
