so i was rearended in my hatch back in may and it was considered totaled. i finally just got the car back from towing and storage and fully investigated the damage.the frame rails were bent downward in the back and the trunk is wrinkled. but whatever, the single slammer only has 79,000 miles on it and runs amazing for its age.

so since i got it back i wasnt sure about keeping it so i started parting things out. i sold my bumper and front fenders( big mistake)Image

ROUND 2

finally after over a year of looking i found a s13 that is in decent shape. its a 1990 hatch with 224,000 miles and is automatic  but lucky me i have my other 240 still that ill be swapping my transmission over to this one. as well as my interior since this one is gross. and we'll see where it goes.

there are two main things I'm worried about, one, the roof has cracks in it (sorry no pics, wouldn't upload) I'm wondering if i can swap roofs or how this can be fixed cheaply. also the front end was backed into and now i need to get a bumper, brackets and re straighten the radiator support. its not terrible, I'm sure new fender and bumper and light will fix its self but its something that bothers me since i wanted this to be like my dream clean 240sx build. so wish me luck and happy to be back in the game! :dblthumb:

Ordered some parts for the auto to manual swap the other day.
Isis short shifter
Isis ss clutch line
Circuit Sports clutch pivot
Exedy oem clutch kit (clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, align tool)
Tomei 90mm shift knob.

I know i need to get the flywheel resurfaced, i sent out the mounts that hold the driveshaft to get sandblasted and powder coated. right now still waiting on getting some more tools to finish pulling the transmission out of the old car.

few questions....
1. what else should i replace while i have the transmission out?
2. can someone post a link for me for instructions to remove the brake pedal/ steering column please? can't find one for the life of me.

more pics..

placed a order with rock auto. got a master clutch cylinder and slave cylinder. they were extremely cheap on rock auto so I'm a little worried about what I'm getting. but hopefully will have some real progress soon and pictures just waiting on getting more tools to make my life easier(more air tools, transmission jack) and finding time for a buddy to help me.

I also replaced both headlight assemblies and aligned it the best i could with the bent support. I'm thinking after the swap ill start on the support. from what i heard its about 30 spot welds that i have to drill out and then it comes off?? we'll see i guess.

thanks man! just incase you didn't see but these are two different cars. the dark red is my parts car

picked up my brackets for the driveshaft today that were sandblasted then powder coated
Image

also decided to clean up the driveshaft today, gave it a quick scrub and the painted it, i covered the joints just to be safe and to make sure the paint won't damage the movement

also got my clutch in today, waiting on my master and slave cylinders and still waiting on time to remove the transmission so i can clean that and paint it. trying to make everything look new or at least clean.

removed upper radiator support from the old 240 today. over 20 spot welds to drill but wasn't as bad as i thought. didn't bother taking pics of the process. its pretty straight forward although i did drill through all the way in most of them. :tisk: i sprayed the whole thing red just to cover some of the bare metal for now as it will be sitting for quite some time.

stuck on my transmission swap right now. can't figure out a way to drill the hole big enough for the clutch master cylinder. NEED ADVICE PLEASEEE ad also trying to figure out a way to raise my car higher to remove the transmission from below. my jack does not go high enough.

good to hear! it was cheap and better than the one i had!

no updates on the car yet, been saving for tools and such so everything gets done right and nothing half assed. but i did get a matco 50lb sandblaster. to me tools are just as important as the cars were working on.
Image

probably gonna be getting some things to together to finish the stupid auto to transmission swap. car jack isn't big enough to lift the car good enough to slide the transmission out on the transmission jack and still figuring out the clutch master cylinder hole.

Car is pretty bad my friend, so bent up cant even put gas in it. I also dont want to have a horrible looking car which is why ive been spending money on tools to fix the body damage and get everything lik enew again so im not wasting money on a rust bucket or on a car where the suspension is worth more than it. which is why this car is not slammed on fancy wheels and thinking it looks "cool"

ive been playing around with the sand blaster(pictures soon), trying to get a mig welder and some spray guns to install the radiator support and work on the rust if i can fix it myself

Well my point was that you could put that welder to good use trying to shore up the rear, and make the old one look good and be somewhat safe.

I understand why NOT, but still, I'm a hopeless vehicular romantic.

i understand what your saying, i wish i can do all that. but space and money would be in the way.

ok on to my swap, im in the middle of it. just removed the automatic transmission this week. but this plug here, comes off the automatic transmission and goes to the fuse box in the engine bay. my manual transmission does not have that. what do i do here? just leave a plug missing or what?Image
also what do i do with this?

very confused on the wiring here. any help would be appreciated! thanks

5 speed swap is done. guess i didn't need any of those plugs i was asking about. thanks for nothing nico
Image

i used the Exedy oem replacement clutch with isis ss clutch line, and it feels more firm than it did in my old car. which i like or its just me not being use to it. either way i like it. but i also used the isis short shifter and thats very noisy even with it covered in grease. but feel great.

the tome shift knob is well worth the money. does not get hot and doesn't seen like it'll get to cold. only problem is that the top of the shift knob is shiny and the sun can glare off that and get annoying.

and for the record, i did the auto to manual swap at about 225,048 miles. 850 miles of me owning the car.

Finally got my circuit sports short hub and installed my act international steering wheel. But of course theres problems. I guess the hub is so short that I cant fit the horn button on it, so I plan on getting a cheap one off ebay to cut so that it covers the nut and wire, I dont really care too much about a horn anyways.

And the stupid cheap hub squeaks! im gonna try grease/lube it up and see if that helps. if not I'll go for one of the splash hubs down the road.

I am also replacing the isis clutch line with the Dif line. Much better quality so it should hold up much better. Has anyone tried different fluids to use? i have STP/Prestone in mine line right now and wondering if i try something maybe better quality (if there is a such thing) if I'd get better feel from it?
