My friends 90 S13 does that. It was rebuilt and it would hit the rev limit at 5500. He tried another ECu (mine) then a tuned ECU and nothing. He tried a bunch of crap and his limit is still at 5500. Someoen told him to check the valve springs but we never did.

So I am not saying that it does that because it was rebuilt but....who knows.

LOL yeah...I beleive the real rev limit is 6500 or 6200. BUt honestly...the KA (at least the Altima) dies off after 5500 or so. NO POWER. So really it isnt that bad.

My '93 has a redline of like 6800, rev limiter kicks in at like 7100.

the rev limiter in the 240 will only kick in at 5500rpm in fifth gear other than that you can take it up to 7100rpm

Actually, now that I look at it redline is at 6900. If your rev limiter is kicking in at 5500 in first, I think something's wrong.

there are 2/3 limiters on the 240sx.

1. gear limiter - when in 4th or 5th gear, a sensor is triggered for each of those gears which sends a signal to the ecu. the ecu says " ok this ****er is doing 5500rpm in 4th gear which is insanely fast, this is where his fun ends"

how to remedy this problem? unplug the 4th and 5th gear sensors on the transmission. problem solved

2. speed limiter - i have personally never hit this even when going past the speedo range.... but some people claim its there (maybe autos only??? dont quote me plz :oface) , ecu sees 115-130mph and it cuts it. only way around this if it exists is to cut the speed sensor to ecu wire, but when u do this you lose your speedo.

3. rev limiter, as soon as you hit 6900-7100 rpm the ecu comes to the rescue and saves your poor, overworked, mistreated KA, and cuts fuel. if your insane and want to blow your engine up on purpose you might be out of luck. only aftermarket/retuned ecu will lift this limit.

All Nissan ecu have both rev and speed sensors and hard and soft limiters ............on most the hard [fuel cutoff] is 6900 rpm.

The speed limiters are set with the speed rating of oem original tires. Except the Q and TT 300zx which were 155 mph for reinforced V rated tires. The speed and rev limits can be changed by reprogramming ecu [JWT] on OBD1 engines.
