Replacing stock speakers

I'm not really into audio that much, but I think the stock system in my 2011 AC without bose could be improved. So I'm thinking of just replacing the speakers. Would I be able to just straight up replace them or would an amp be necessary?

You can just replace them but I pretty sure you would be better off just replacing the head unit only if you want an improvement in sound quality
