There are two different remote models, Model/A and Model/A1. I'm not sure if there is a way to determine which is required for your specific Pathfinder.

I think this post has the correct programming instructions.

A replacement ignition key will need to be programmed by the dealer, there is no way around it.

All R50s since 1999 have chipped keys, so you must use a key with a chip in it.

I'm going to start a thread about the two remotes, asking folks for their remote model and build date.

Ace Hardware claims to be able to do chip keys for about $80. However, you gotta go in before the bridge across the top breaks. They do some sort of pattern recognition on the key.

Good idea. I was contemplating doing so myself, but you go ahead. Perhaps we can glean some info from Courtesy Parts' listing, but unfortunately it doesn't list the specific "Model" or FCC ID of the remotes.

I bought a flipkey/remote shell on eBay about two months ago for about $13 for my 03 Qx4. It comes with a blank flipkey blade. I took the blank to Ace and they messed up while cutting it, since they did not have the correct cutting machine template. I then had to get another blank keyblade from the eBay seller in China. I took that to a "real" locksmith and he cut the key in 30 seconds and charged only $2. I was able to cut the chip out of my old key with a dremel wheel, and glue it into a slot in the new flip remote. Then you have to disassemble your old remote, and put the parts into the new remote. They furnish new rubber buttons and some very cryptic instructions. After trading a couple more email questions with the seller in China (who I will say tried to be helpful) I finally got it to work. The remote works most of the time, but sometimes I have to use the key to unlock the door. Make sure you have a spare chipped backup key before you try this.
