I'm looking to buy a G35 or maybe even a G37 and was wondering if it's a reliable car? I got a $10k budget and was looking for a nice sporty car but that could be driven everyday and not end up being towed to a mechanic (*cough* BMW *cough*). Is there anything I should know about the car? How much do you usually spend per year on maintenance and repairs?

I purchased a 2004 G35 w/ 123k miles 19 months ago. I'm nearly at 146k now with only oil/fluids, filters, brakes, and a light bulb. I'm expecting a long and fun relationship :)

Does this mean every car is the same? Make sure you know possible issues with the years you are looking to purchase and give the car a thorough look. Get CarFax and bring it to a trusted mechanic to give it a quick inspection before you buy. This is probably true with used cars more than anything - Any time you spend critically inspecting a car before you buy is probably saving you 10 times as much time and money fixing something you missed in the future.

On the average, they are reliable.

Lars

Welcome to NICO

Both the G35 and the G37 are both very reliable vehicles.

When purchased brand new and properly maintained that is.

With a $10k budget what do you expect to find?

My previous 06 G35 was the best and most reliable vehicle I've ever owned in the past 50 years.
I traded it in for my current 2012 G37S with 171796 miles as it was gong to require a few thousand in needed repairs. Brakes, headlight ballast, leaking differential seal.

I could be wrong but from reading your post I'd have to guess that you are young and perhaps looking for your first car?

My advice would be to look for something cheaper such as Honda, Hyundai or Altima.

Older Infiniti's may require replacement parts and if you can't do much of the work yourself the labor is expensive.

Qualified independent mechanics are hard to find.

I trust no one but the dealer to do any work on my Infiniti.

Just my $.02
Good luck

They are reliable if they are properly taken care of. Check for maintenance and get the newest you can.

I have a 2006 G35 Sedan I purchased new and other than maintenance and an annoying fuel gauge problem I've put over 250,000 miles without any incident.

Granted I've now just jinxed myself and my car will probably explode on the way home from work....

I just bought my 07 G35x with 141k about 3 weeks ago for 9.5k these cars are really nice and sporty and they really seem to go forever. I dropped about 1k extra doing some work that needed to get done. really check maintenance reports just to make sure past driver did keep up on the important stuff :D
