What's up folks, I just bought a 2006 Infiniti M35 Sport. Needless to say, I am kind of disappointed with the steering and handling. I want to purchase a coil-over kit, but don't want an aggressive drop. Do you guys have a suggestion of the type of system that would be ideal for it? I am already running low-profile tires so I don't need anything to make the car look lower, I just really want improved handling.

And your budget.

Most people go D2 or BC Racing for coilovers. 06M4.5 has D2's, I have BC's.

IlyaKol, how is your ride quality with the BC's? I am hesitant to sacrifice comfort for sport.

your better of getting coilovers as you'll need struts very soon if not already. Dead strurs with just springs don't work.

Thanks, I am definitely not interested in springs, I want to get a full coilover system. I've been reading up about D2 Racing RS coilovers, seems like a solid product.

D2's are great, it's the way to go. So many people have them but they just don't post.

You can't go wrong with either one for the price. I like my BC's, but adjustment is a bit tougher on the BC's than the D2's. I don't plan to adjust mine any more. It's set and it won't be changing ever again.

Sorry IlyaKol but the D2's are much better hands down. :yesnod

Not only in adjusting but also in installation And being that they are a true coilover set is reason enought to go with them.

Nothing wrong with BC for the M's just not better than D2's.

I agree on installation and adjustability, but as far as quality (which is subjective)...I was told by many car builders/vendors (that didn't sell either one or even have M's) to stay away from D2's due to quality issues (when I was calling up places to find out prices or if they carried them). They said it was on the level of Megan. That is for each individual to decide though. I did a lot of googling and talking to people before I decided which brand I was going with and I honestly would go with BC again even knowing that installation and adjusting is a bit tougher.

HOWEVER, it all depends on your roads, etc. and how much abuse the suspension gets. Some BC's could fail within a year or two in NYC but be perfectly fine up here in Albany as our roads are 100x better. Or down south, where roads are 1000x better than up in the north (thanks snow plows), most coilovers would probably last for a long time.

They are both comparable in price, and both have their pro's and con's. Bottom line, for the M, stick to BC or D2. I'm not going to get into which one I think is absolutely the best, etc.

Whichever one you go with, OP, definitely talk to 06M4.5 if you have installation questions. He knows quite a bit.

I'm on D2 Coilovers and LOVE THEM! Thebodyguard had D2's also on his M. He had a few suspension and wheel setups so he would be another good resource to tap for info.

Hey Guys. Sorry to resurrect this older thread but I just bought a set of D2's from JM Auto Racing. I have an 06 M35x and never had lowering springs or coilovers. They haven't arrived yet but am hoping to hear any feedback on how they have been for those who have been using them for longer. I don't mind a slightly stiffer ride than stock with an even drop of around 2" all around. I am planning on installing this myself at home. I have a few tools and one electric impact drill. My longest breaker bar is around 2 feet.

IlyaKoll: I read your installation guide and am really grateful you took the time to write it up. Thank you!

I'm also wondering if we could discuss spring rates. I was told my D2's will come with 10kg Front/8kg Rear (Edit: Was just notified Joe made a typo in his email. It should be 16kg front/8kg rear). Will I need a chamber kit for a 2" drop?

Cheers

For the people with co's couldn't the ride be softer than oem if you adjust the dampening below the half way point?

I'm really interested in the D2 racing Coilovers as well. I don't like my wheel gap with the Eibach springs. I like the ride cause I also did new shocks at the time as well. But the more I see these stanced out M35/M45s I'm loving the look and with my rear being aggressive doing a little pull on the rear fender would look good with the fenders just a little over the tire. Also will need to do spacers up front to flush them out as well. So after I get my full exhaust system this will be my next upgrade.

Yes but the lower you go the less travel you want (stiffer), even more so on the M45

I'm at 2" all around (well, was, rear is now 1.75") and I have mine on the softest possible setting. I like it.

That's great to hear. How long have you been on D2's? I doubt a 6' pipe would fit anywhere near where the suspension bolts are. I don't have a lift but will be doing this using jack stands. I'm just hoping the bolts break using the electric impact drill. I'll be sure to spray a liberal amount of penetrating oil an hour before beginning this exciting project.

Dude your car is so sick as it is. You're just tryin to find an excuse to buy a new toy ;) Admit it! :rotfl

I placed my order with Joe from JM Auto Racing. Confirmed they are full coilovers front and rear. Interestingly the rear eliminates the rear spring that sits on the perch. Do you guys think that may do something negative to the lateral stiffness of the rear suspension? There are other links but if these rear springs aren't necessary then why didn't Nissan just have rear struts as well?

Where can I find pictures of the car? You've got the BM co's right? I'm hoping the cheaper D2's are decent for a few years. Seeing as they have collars will I have to constantly worry about keeping them tight?

msvara I hope you don't run in to any problems but you should only use 6-point sockets. A big pipe is your friend. :yesnod

I also do the suspension on the ground with no air tools.

I like to start with the rear which are fast to do.
