Here's the deal - My Dell Inspiron 1100 is getting old and tired. It's heavy, and I'm thinking of handing it down to the kids.

I was looking at an IBM ThinkPad T60, because it was recommended, but honestly, I don't think it really is necessary.

Here are my criteria:

1 - Lightweight2 - Sturdy3 - Looks cool 4 - Fast surfing / pageloading5 - CD burner and DVD player6 - Cheap

All I do on my lappy is email, web work, and occasionally watch a movie or burn a CD. It's my "office" when I go to a meet out of town.

Greg, IMO IBM laptops are usually overpriced, but they are fairly good machines. I have a dell 1501 that i got 6 months ago. It's been used largely for note taking, and school projects at college. The machine is fast, and actually has decent hardware.(Battlefield 2142 on a laptop........ in class...... )It seems like a pretty sturdy machine. I throw my backpack around and the laptop is still running. Here's a linkhttp://www.dell.com/content/pr...s=dhsYour still gonna need a copy of office and possibly XP if you hate vista. But the machine itself is good.

Hey Hitman,

You tell me what you want to spend and I will find you the best machine for the price.

IBM Laptops are awesome in my opinion. I will not own anything else and for what you want to do with a laptop it should be perfect. You can also get a refurbished IBM for WAY cheaper with a warranty. As for durability, I ran my old T22 over, replaced the LCD and it still works great!

Next in line that has proven itself pretty well to me is Acer. I have sold a few and they seem to hold up pretty good. I have some overseas with service men and they love them.

Also pretty much and decend computer now a days will have a DVD burner and be able to handle the internet quite well.

Let me know what you want to spend and Ill see what I can do for you.

The Dell Outlet often has some good deals. A barebones XPS M1210 would be my recommendation but I'm a bit biased. Mine (a refurbished one from their outlet) has been flawless. The computers sold through the Dell outlet also come with a full warrenty and tech support.

Not sure yet - I'll know when it arrives, I'm kinda taking advantage of a very generous hook-up.

Something cheap, Acer makes some good low budget laptops.. Whatever you do, get the true bright screen, the glossy looking one.
