first things first. I've recently purchased a wrecked 350z. Not all was bad. It needed a new front clip and a door and it was a steel on it's own. I've researched this subject mildly and only seemed to get incomplete results. Is this transition possible? I saw a video that had this swap into a 350z but still am scepticle. What dose this swap take? Can the stock 350z rear axle be used? Drive shaft, 1 piece or 2 piece? Dose the full r34 drive train need to be used? Is this swap simply unrealistic to accomplish or has it just not got the media exposure it deserves? Alot of questions come up and will continue. So will it fit? What year will it go into? There you have, send feedback please.

im going to take a wild guess and say it was probably this one..?

As for technical Rb26 pointers..I'll leave that to the gurus.

Your Z come with a 6mt? Selling it? How much?

BTW if you were mechanically inclined you would already know the answer. That said, if you can not figure that out on your own. Let alone, someone tells you.. and you try to assemble it. What a mess...

Now reality..

The R34 is harder to come by and they are getting expensive...so R32 and R33 with the 5 speed... I mean hell the 6th gear is for MPG...

The rear end can be kept. However for the 5 spd that the gtr's come with will be too tall, Z final drive 3.538... verse GTR's 4.3 However if you are bloody rich and got yourself a R34... nothing needs to change.

As for the front... you can't keep the Z's front subframe/suspension, it's got to go.. it's designed for RWD... then you put any of the 89-02 GTR's front subframe/suspension in...then whats left is the ATTESA mess.

The transmission and the front driveshaft will need to be made fit under the car... it will not fit as is.

Now the rb... if you have mechanical background with the rb and experience with the rb motor you will have no problem... but it's obvious you don't have any experience with the motor. It's a high maintenance b*tch that needs your attention constantly otherwise it will be costing you a lot and quickly. And this goes up with as power increases.

Don't believe me... look at Nismo racing skylines and even the current GTR... what engine are they running right now. VK45DE. It's reliable. And desirable NA characteristics and low end power that yields better apex speeds.

If you want to go fast any motor you can find here in USA will be cheaper and if not faster/more powerful than the rb.

If you try to swap the gtr in the Z.. at your age.. guarantee you will end up selling it 4 years down the road because unable to fund or finish it. Or busted motor. Now that's no fun.

I don't know what your plan for your Z... if you plan street.. you are better off with low end power... because that's where you will be most of the time. rb will not supply it.

Track...part of being a racer is getting back on the track. And without busting your wallet.. and waiting on parts. And reliability. None will the rb serve you.

Still want a rb motor? Move to japan. Now that's more logical.

Thanks alot of helpful insight. The transmission is a 6 speed Manuel. no not selling it, just picked it up actually, with the plan to rebuild.

so i finally got the answer i was looking for and the result is the AWD system can not be done practically. The rb26dett engine into a 350z is RWD. maybe there is one or two out there but its a 80,000 dollar build and just not going to happen. this totally defeats the purpose of the swap, for me anyway. the AWD system would be the only reason to accomplish a built like this.

If AWD is why you were looking at the RB powerplant/drivetrain there are a couple of other options out there

Pick up an Evo or an STi. Blasphemy, I know but its certainly cheaper than dropping 80K into a Z. For that matter, imagine what 80K could do to either of those lpatforms, or better still pick up an R35.

The other option, if you are truly set on the Z is to use the drivetreain from an Infiniti G35X. Its already been done by Function Tuned out of Virgina. There are plenty of pics on their page as well as some vids posted on YouTube.

just search your local junk yards for the nissan titan truck motor, its 5.6 V8. you can pick those up for about 2 grand and you can use the 6spd transmission out of the 350Z but you have to have a custom flywheel to make the Z transmission work with the VK56. if you decide t go this route just shoot me a PM and i can get you the flywheel you need =]

^ Yeah, I can't think of any AWD drivers that have skill or that aren't bishez. . .http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W...nship

Don't get me started on all of those skill-less bishez in there manual transmissions.

That huge drift at the beginning was freakin’ awesome not to mention the high speed 360 inside the aircraft hanger.
