well I am in the process of working on my transmission...I am almost done, just need to replace 3/4th syncro spring clips and bolt it back together. I know I had a hell of a time looking for pictures of one opened up and never did find out, so I want to make it easier for others to find them and/or show people what one of these look like opened up.

Also from my knowledge....these transmission internally are the SAME as a 300zx. I have taken a look at the 300zx transmission manual and compared it to my open transmission on everything so far is the same. I have heard others say that they are as well...the differance with the two transmission is how the shifter and rod is setup and also the bell housing and starter setup.

Here are the pictures:

very cool research/work....

when you say 300zx, you mean 300zx NA right? not TT? or are they internally the same

I was comparing the transmission with the TT version, but I am pretty positive that both the NA and TT are the same internally. Here goes the link to the transmission service manual:http://300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/manual.cgi

wow thats great, so when our trannies go out we dont have to source another rb25det transmission, we can just get a z32 transmission and pull the casings off and swap the rb25det casings on, z32 trannies are only about 400 -600 bucks

Thats some good work there guy, Have you any info on the speed sensor, or does anyone know? I've been trying to get a speed sensor for my RB25DET, and i dont know what will fit it, i know KA and SR's dont work becuase they arent long enough ( or so i've been told) If the z and rb trannies are so similar internally, will the Speed sensor off the z32 work?

Well, I don't know about the RB25 trannies, but I'm about to try a Z31 VSS cable in an RB20 transmission... heh...

I'm using an RB25DE cluster with that.

(Damn, I really have a bastardized car!)

heres my rb26dett transmission gear set that i just took apart tonite and they look the same compared to your rb25det gear set. so for those of you that still have your rb26 transmission still keep em cause you can use parts off the gear set on your rb25det transmission.my car as it sits awaiting rebuilt transmission

Yes the speed senor off a z32 will work for the rb25 transmission. hybridz.org is a very good place to find info on rb engines. And I could be wrong but if I remember correctly the N/A z32 transmission is the same (internally) as the rb20 transmission and the tt z32 transmission is the same (internally) as the rb 25 transmission.

Nope.... incorrect!! the N/A and the TT Z32 internals are the same, and can be made to work in the rb25det transmission.

The rb20 internals will not interchange with the above....

I can confirm this, I did it a couple years ago. Also the the z31 turbo transmission will work as well (thats what I used).

Joel, this is Evan Purple240zt from hybridz.org ... I think you helped me figure if it would work at the time along with a few others.

Thanks

So you found one of these?

The RB25/26 and 300ZX NA/TT transmission are all the same internally, there is no differences.

The only differences are in the input shafts (marginal difference, like 1/8" at most) and the tail sections have different shifter setups.

Please see my post here for LOTS more information

Thats what is pictured, its just hard to tell because it was from a camera phone

This is a common problem, and it will keep happening. A new one is around 40 bucks. I am in the process of having a billet one machined.

Would anyone else be interested in an upgraded 3/4 gear shift fork?

I have no clue, I have just sent the fork out to be CAD, and then it has to go to a CNC guy who will tell me what its going to cost to have them reproduced

The stock ones are cast aluminum and very brittle

For future reference, if you guys using the RB25/RB26/300ZX transmission ever shift hard into 3rd or 4th and all of a sudden you lose those gears, you broke the 3/4 gear shifter fork. When taken apart, it'll look like this

Its really quite easy

If you have the transmission already out, the tools you need to get down to where I have pictured are:

1. 10mm Socket2. 12mm Socket3. 14mm Socket4. Magnet Tool5. A good pair of snap ring pliars6. Dowel Pin Tools7. Hammer
