RB25det 1000HP Build

Well truthfully I've never added it all up(too scared) but if I had to guess I would say you could build the longblock i've got for around 12k(?). Again that is simply an educated guess and it doesn't include bolt ons like the full race manifold or turbo or injectors or intake mani etc. ALOT of the machine shop costs was in getting the head right, they did alot of work on the port and polish and especially on the combustion chambers they did alot of work changing the combustion chamber to better suit my goals. The cost is a tricky thing because in electronics alone I'll have easily 7k or more and those are all atleast semi related to getting the motor to work. If we are talking taking a regular 240 and putting an rb in it and making 1,000hp I would say 20-25k.

P.S. where would the fun be in having a significant amount of power but not being able to put it down.

i completely agree with you on the P.S. part :) ... i was just curious on what you thought youve spent so far on the motor, just one of those, oic moments :)

Happy 5th Page lol

It's important to put it down, but you dont need 100% of the cars performance in 6seconds in all applications haha. I do respect drag racing, I LOVE doing it and can't wait to finish my NEO wiring and get it to the local dragstrip.

Also aslong as you know your car is in trusted hands I wouldn't stress it being stolen. You seem to get constant feedback and updates from the shop, and I am sure researched where to go or know them personally. Guess you can never be too safe tho.

No I understand and not everyone will want or like a dedicated drag car. I've recently made some changes that will make it next to impossible to drive on the street(no radiator, parachute mounts etc) and that does change things dramatically. I obviously can't be too sure until I've done it but I'm fairly certain that the motor would hold 1000hp without issue. However that won't get it done for the class I'm wanting to run(I'll need more like 1400hp to run upfront) as for my car being stolen from NRC anything is possible but if they broke in there my car is really the least desirable of the ones they have there(because it's not done, has no motor, and there's alot more built cars but the main reason is that moving a dedicated drag 240sx would be a b**** vs say a fox body stang which are a dime a dozen) but yeah in small tire drag racing they are very reputable and I've dropped by several times and everything is always perfect and organized.

Nothing wrong with a dedicated track car of any form. 1400hp ehh sounds like that'd be fun I couldn't even imagine

Lol no for XTF no bs you need a $150,000 chassis. They use titanium sheetmetal and carbon fiber everywhere. Because they have no minimum weight it gets extremely expensive fast. Besides you need at least 2,200hp or so to compete there. I will be running in X275 which will be enough of a challenge for me, they run the 1/8 and just set a new class record last night of 4.785@150. That's about a 7.20 in the quarter. The fastest RB pass ever is the hks S13(7.18 and it only ran that once) which was full tube chassis and much lighter than I'm allowed to run at and they did it with huge 16" wide tires while I'll be on 275's so I'd say realistically this is as fast as I could every hope to compete with this combo.

Well yes and no, it would certainly be easier to make the car work with a bigger tire but if you take a look at the class I'm wanting to run they are getting it done with the 275/60/15's. I mean they are running the equivalent of low 7's in the 1/4 so I should be able to get all I can out of the motor with the 28's. However we did think ahead and if you see the wheel tubs give me the clearance to run much bigger tires if need be. As for the 290's they better sound badass after all the work it took to get them to clear the head. Because of the much bigger lift they had to clearance the head alot and it's what has been holding up the motor.

I just reread my post that you were responding to and I don't want it to seem like I'm thinking or saying I'm gonna make 1400hp. It may appear I'm just throwing numbers out there without idea of how difficult it is to attain. That is what I'd need to be a front runner in the class I'll be primarily running in and built the car for but I don't know that I could make this motor survive at that high a power level. I initially started this build with the idea of a 1,000hp RB with no specific class in mind and I've been upping the ante ever since. Hell I've made a bunch of changes that I don't think I've mentioned here in an effort to get more out of the car and make it more geared strictly for drag. I'm not running a radiator anymore, I'm running an electric water pump and ditching the N1. I'm not using an alternator any more. I replaced the dual A1000 fuel pumps with a magnafuel 750 that should allow me to fuel 1600hp atleast. And alot of other stuff on the electronic side of things. I've never done anything like this before and although it's gotten way past what I originally thought I'd do I've enjoyed the build a ton so far. We'll just see what she's capable of once I get her going.

Oh and I picked up my engine today! :mike

Next step is to finish assembly and take it NRC to the front end of the chassis done. Stay tuned hopefully the updates will come far faster now.

Nice progress Jime,

hard to tell from the pics but it looks like and i assume the floor is all aluminum? I see some welds between the individual panels but no welds holding it down or no bolts either! What the does the floor attach to? I have a buddies "street" car in the garage that he plans on running in the 7's ( ran 8.47 this fall) But now we are saving weight everywhere possible and i am gonna be making the back very similar to your build. Looks nice and super clean. Keep up the updates!

You know I'm not sure if it's aluminum or steel as we'll have to add ballast to meet weight so no big push to get light. I will take more pictures and find out how it's welded in but I imagine it goes welded on to the framerails and to other panels. I don't think they seal the floor any more than that as there's really no need as this vehicle will never see the street but I'm headed to NRC on Wednesday to drop off the motor and get more specifics.

Sweet keep me posted.

My buddies car isnt running in any specific class, he meets nhra specs for his speed but doesnt care if he is competitive or not. He prides himself in driving his cars to the track and home again! Pretty awesome considering he ran 8.47 and drove home!!! hahaha

So for him sealing it up kinda matters for road noise/air and heat (cold night drives home here in canada) haha.

Yeah its steel sheetmetal that was used. The panels are overlapped and welded more at the bottom but they aren't sealed completely the way they would need to be on a DD. Its progressed a little but they were waiting on the engine to get the front end done and get the car to the paint shop. Here's where were at:

Rear end is done and all in
Image

The bottom of the water tank, the middle fitting is a drain the others are inlet and outlet for the tranny cooler
Image

Heres the water tank that will be used to cool the engine and If needed will feed the intercooler, Also the fuel cell and battery box
Image

Oh and its a bad iphone pic at night but see if you can spot something familiar Nolan
Image

Next update should be in a few weeks when the engine is back in the car(temporarily) and then the dyno.

The coilpack looks way better in good light and with a good camera. It's titanium and I love the look although I may get it clear coated. I just threw that pic up because it's the only one I took where you could see it.

HAHAHA SWEET! i forgot I made I made that one out of ti! Im sure it will look killer in good light! Awesome work,

Looking closer at the pics the floor is steel. You can see heat marks from welding it up. Looks killer so far, I cant wait to see this thing come alive!

titanium is super heat sensitive. With some time and some patience you could do almost any color on it. And worst case you can just clean off the color with some scotch brite pad.

I could get it any color but I like the color as is. What I will do is polish it a bit and then have it painted clear. Hopefully towards the end of this coming week NRC will send me some progress pics where it can be seen better.

JimeFan: A little off topic, but where in Cumming are you located? I am just about through with my 700-800 WHP RB26 build and would love to stop by to take a look. I too live in Cumming, off of Hurt Bridge Road near Bethelview Road and 20. I am actually a Master Tech at Regal Nissan off of Holcomb Bridge Road and seeing this thread makes me completely admire some good work. Giving any tours of the build??????

A very close friend of mine was actually talking about your car and he heard it was a 1000+ HP RB25 build and I knew of your post on here. I then went looking through your old photos and saw the cryo company you used. I have used them in the past on some trans parts and such on some of my other cars I used to have. Yeah, you literally Li e 5 minutes from me. When I get the engine back in here in a week or two (after some adjustments were needed) I will hit you up. Good luck man.

nice build! admittedly i saw this thread earlier and thought it was going to be a tire fire high hp highway only motor build, but now i see all the supporting suspension/tire/electronics for the power this motor will make. digging the fab work on the rear end for a purpose built car. glad i took a second look, good luck!
