I'm a decent way into the RB24 build so I thought it was time I share some of the progress. For those that don't already know I lost the number 6 coil. This caused the rest of the motor to lean out and fry the rings and plugs. Notice how dark the valve for cylinder 6 is compared to the rest.

The good thing is that I've been stock piling parts for a build for a while before this happened. So far I have a set of Eagle RB26 rods, custom JE piston, ARP head and main studs, and ACL race bearings. The RB26 crank is at a guy out in Colorado where it will be getting a journal welded, ground to match the bearings, and then nitrided. I will be re-using the head off the original block which has Tomie 260 pro cams, Tomie springs, port and polish, and three angle valve job. The turbo setup will be staying the same for right now with the exception of the Tial 38mm external wastegate. Once the motor is broken in I will be looking to sell the T3/T04e setup. I will be making a new turbo manifold to go with the Precision T76 Q trim I plan on getting. I'm also going to need to upgrade the fuel system. I'm thinking about a cell, Aeromotive A1000, and Sard 1000cc injectors. I've also been thinking of going to a water to air intercooler setup. I not sure on management right now because it's looking like I'll have to go MAP for the power level I want. Right now I'm just waiting on the bearings to get here so we can put them in and send the measurement to the crank guy. After that we will be boring the block for the pistons, decking it, and drilling out the oil return wholes. The head will be shaved true but, that's about it. One thing that's pretty cool is that we're going to flow my ported head against a stock head and see what the difference is so I can make a decision on oversized valves. Hopefully this will all be done in time for the track to open in the spring. Should make for a fun summer.

My crank is finally back since being shipped up to be ground and nitrided in October. Also picked up a few part that I needed. The head is off getting a valve job and I'll be meeting with the engine builder some time next week to see where we go from here. Looks like its time to start looking for a torque plate.

I'll be bring this block home this weekend but, not for good. I have to assemble it with the head on and cams in so we can check for valve clearance.

I'm at work and can't see the pics, but how would loosing a coil cause the that cylinder let along the rest of the motor to go lean and fry the rings and plugs? Was it just not working correctly and you tried tuning around it and didn't notice you were only running on 5 cylinders? Also, if you have a spark plug not firing, it will actually show up as leaner overall on a wideband, which seems backwards. That should make you "tune" more gas into it if you were trying to tune around a back plug.

It was firing like normal most of the time. The only time it would go real lean and I could feel something was in the top of 3rd at the track. So, I threw fuel at. I'm still learning the tuning part of this. This motor will go to a real tuner and get done right.

Things are started to move again. The exhaust valve I've been waiting on left Chicago yesterday. The engine bay is done. Now I need to get the transmission and spare block bolted up so I can start mocking up the exhaust. The welder also got done with the intake manifold. It still needs some porting work but, I'm happy with it so far.
