RB20DET shutting off randomly.

Hey Guys,

I have a 93 S13 with a silver top rb20det. Was running fantastic until about 2-3 weeks ago. Cruising down the highway in 5th gear in vacuum, the car dies and goes into decel. Pushing the gas and its like you turned the key off. Then randomly it comes back to life and drives for a random amount of time before shutting off again. Sometimes 20 sec later, sometimes 20 min later.

Conditions seem to be completely random: speed, temp, driving conditions. Its completely random. I have a Walbro 255 and a sard fpr. When it shuts off i do get a smell of gasoline in the cabin, however the my fpr reeds 40psi.

The only thing that seems to change it is if i don't drive it for a few days, then when i drive it it will drive perfect for 2-3 days before acting up. Also while driving down the hwy and it cuts off, if i stay on the gas to try and get it to start again, when it catches if i rev it until it bounces the rev limiter, it seems to fix it for 10-15 min.

Its obviously either losing spark or fuel, could a bad ignitor or cas be the cause of this? has anyone experienced anything simliar? Its about to drive me nuts because its completely random and some days worse than others. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

sounds like a boost leak tbh.

i'll throw a boost leak tester on her, she does have a lil boost creep in 3rd... 7psi to 10psi....

also to add, when it dies, occassionally it won't start right back up, takes about 6 tries of cranking... and it also sometimes searches to find idle... or will die when you hit the gas... or it will make it to about 2500rpm... which leads me to believe it could possibly be a bad maf?
