I have been reading a lot and... http://www.gtrusablog.com/2010/05/real- ... 2-r33.html and many more. I'm looking for good diff fluid for the front and rear obviously. The link I am sure all of you have seen. I'm a tad confused about the linking for the Diff fluids though. It takes me to redline on eBay, that's fine but, Redline does not sell "GL5 85/90 or GL5 80/90 so why does the link take you to that fluid? If that fluid is recommended why not link to a company that sells it. Any way Ive read a lot of people over seas using TITAN SINTOPOID LS SAE 75W-90 for the rear diff and TITAN SINTOPOID SAE 75W-90 for the front. What are you guys using? any one using http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/gear-lube/ is so what viscosity?

here is some other info I found on skylineowners.com

Engine Im leaving this out as it is covered in nissan-engines.html some where.

Manual Transmission GL-4 75W-90 4.1litres = 4.33242qt

Differential LSD(rear) 75w-90, 80W-90 1.6 litres = 1.6907qt

Brake & Clutch Fluid DOT 4

Front Differential GL-5 75w-90, 80W-90 1litres = 1.05669qt

Power Steering ATF-D2E or D3

Transfer Box ATF Nissan Matic D 1.8litres = 1.90204qt

Coolant 2.3 gallons

I ordered Red Line 58204 Heavy ShockProof Gear Oil for my gear box today. I have heard of people using this in diff's as well. What do you think?

I was confused by that as well since I couldn't find a Redline GL5-85-90 myself (I'll have to ask Sean about that when I get a chance). The GT-R UK forum recommends 75-90 to 85-90 and Redline does have have a GL5 75-90 so that's what I used on my car for the diffs with the Heavy Shockproof for the gearbox.

GSX-R35 and I just discussed this at a different thread. Redline Heavy Shockproof is actually made specifically for differentials and works especially well for hypoid gears used in almost all Nissan differentials.

However, it is a GL5 spec oil, and after another quick googling, I find that GL5 cannot be used to replace GL4 (unlike GL4 can replace GL1, 2, & 3) if there is brass material in the transmission. GTR transmission calls for GL4, but I don't know if there are any brass parts in it. Many people do use it in transmission and report good results, with some prefer Light Shockproof in colder climate.

I image a 85W90 will be a bit redundant, no? Developing an oil with viscosity grade difference of only 5 degree?

Maybe it's for garage queens that don't get driven and hence don't experience temp fluctuations? I know of some car owners like that lol.

About a year after I bought my R33, I did trans/transfer case fluid change to Redline. I can't remember what weight I used, but it was recommended by the maintenance shop I used. The owner raved on Redline, as do a lot of people. Maybe I just had an isolated experience, but I'm not a fan.

I found that at high speeds (between 140KPH-180KPH) shifting from 4th to 5th, and vice versa, I'd get grinding. Was only above those speeds and only between 4th and 5th. I never had that problem with it til after I put in the Redline. I probably could have used a heavier weight but with prices in Japan being as expensive as they are, I couldn't afford doing another trans/transfer case fluid swap.
